International Aquaculture Exhibition and Conference 2017

On October 25th, 2017, the UBM ASIA Company in collaboration with the General Department of Fisheries held the Opening Ceremony of the International Aquaculture Exhibition and Conference 2017 in Can Tho city. The event attracted the participation of over 70 domestic and foreign companies.

This is a comprehensive event that helps visitors to access the whole value chain of aquaculture from raising, fishing and processing. Accordingly, there are 8 contents from leading experts of enterprises, universities and associations sharing at the event, such as: the situation of producing and supplying aquatic breeds, nutrient and feed technology in aquaculture, disease and environment control in aquaculture, advanced farming technology and systems, socio-economic issues of aquaculture, the situation of seafood trade in Vietnam and over the world, the current situation of pangasius catfish fingerling and other aquatic species (shrimp, lobster, pintail, abalone, mollusk and so on) and marine species.

According to Mr. Dao Anh Dung, Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Can Tho city, the International Aquaculture Exhibition and Conference 2017 is a chance for the Agriculture and Rural Development sector of Can Tho city in particular and other provinces in general to introduce scientific and technological advances on fishery exploitation, aquaculture and preservation. Also, it is also the opportunity to promote the brand, introduce products and services and images of Vietnam to the international delegates attending the exhibition. As a result, it creates a motivation for Can Tho city and other provinces in the Mekong Delta develop their fisheries, improve the quality and value of their products, and affirm the position of Vietnamese products on the international market.

The International Aquaculture Exhibition and Conference 2017 will take place in 3 days (from 25th to 27th of October, 2017).

At present, Can Tho city has potential aquaculture area of 51.878 hectares, 36.7% of the city’s natural area, concentrated in some districts, such as Vinh Thanh, Co Do, Phong Dien, O Mon, Thot Not. In 2016, the total aquaculture area of Can Tho city is 11,389 hectares with 199,817 ton output. The main fish species are pangasius catfish, tilapia, giant river prawn, and so on, in which exporting pangasius catfish in 2016 reached 131.8 thousand tons with the value of USD 550 million, 35% of the total merchandise export turnover of the city.
