Bang Lang Stork Sanctuary – Typical Natural Landscape of Southern Vietnam
Date: 11/12/2014

Being an interesting destination for eco-tourism, Bang Lang Stork Sanctuary needs to be well managed and conserved to avoid being disbanded.

Bang Lang Stork Sanctuary (Thuan An Ward, Thot Not District) attracts several tourists, especially foreigners, to enjoy the natural landscape and daily life of various birds.

The sanctuary was first established in early 1980. At first, just a few storks moved to the sanctuary to live. Then, they gradually increased in number.

There are diverse species of storks and other kinds of birds such as pelican, boucal, cork, hedron, water hen, etc.

Recently, due to changes in the natural habitat and uncontrolled hunting activities, the number of storks and birds in this place has decreased. Hunters use net, trap, fishing rod to hunt hundreds of birds and storks everyday. In addition, due to lack of proper investment, it is becoming increasingly hard to dig canals to farm shrimp and small fish for stork. Therefore, the number of storks and birds does not increase though the number of eggs laid and hatched is surplus.

Nature has blessed people with this wonderful landscape. It will be a great pity if Bang Lang Stork may be disbanded in the future. Many visitors hope that this place will be properly invested by the local authority or wildlife protection organizations to become a bird protection zone. This way can help to preserve the birds and reduce negative effects on the sanctuary area. Combination between tourism and preservation is a must. This place must not be considered as a place to earn money.
