The second Book Festival in Can Tho city in 2017: Attracting a lot of foreign publishers

There were 7 foreign publishers participating at the Book Festival with 9,556 titles and over 26,000 copies. Coming to the festival in Can Tho city for the first time, these foreign publishers have contributed a number of books and attracted a lot of readers here.
The Cambridge University Press introduced books to the readers

In the opening day, the Oxford University Press, a largest university press in the world for English teaching materials in the academic levels from kindergarten to university, English dictionaries, academic research, English stories, attracted a rather large number of readers. So, this is a good opportunity for readers, who love speaking English, choosing their favorite books with reasonable prices. Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Linh, Chief Representative of Oxford University Press, said, “We are proud of our best quality titles at the festival to help the readers learn and practice English. The festival offers a chance for us to directly promote and introduce our products to Western customers, a potential market for the consumption of foreign books. With Mr. Giang Cao Thao, Chief Representative of  E- Future Press (Korea), the target customers of this publisher are high school readers who find references besides their textbooks with new and interesting lessons to practice their English skills as listening, speaking, reading, writing and grammar.

Other publishers as Cambridge University, Macmillan Education, Cengage Learning, Pearson have a numerous titles and also mainly focus on books specializing in education and learning English . All booths have promotional programs with discount from 20% to 50%  so they attract many visitors.  Choosing 5 books including practicing English skills, fairy stories, Ms. Huynh My Yen said, “Books are good and cheap here. There are many English books of prestigious publishers so it is easy to find suitable books”. Meanwhile, the students have mainly bought stories, novels to improve their English reading skills and to learn more about different foreign cultures. Here are two typical examples, Nguyen Anh Dung, a student majored in English of  Can Tho University and Tang Ngoc My, a student of grade 12 of Phan Ngoc Hien High School, have just got their favorite books and some new works of literature.

The bridge connecting foreign publishers to the Book Festival in Can Tho is FAHASA, the leading book distribution company of Viet Nam. This is also the largest foreign language book provider in Viet Nam. Besides the booths of foreign publishers, FAHASA also organizes a booth for a bookstore specializing in foreign language literature for children and adults. Ms. Nguyen Thi Phung, Deputy General Director of FAHASA, said, “We want to promote our foreign language books as well as introduce our new and typical titles to Mekong Delta readers to make a contribution to enlarge knowledge for everybody”.

The participation of foreign publishers in the Book Festival not only honors the theme “Culture- Development and Integration” of the festival, but also makes a contribution to satisfy the higher demands for foreign language books of the readers in Can Tho city and Mekong Delta.
