“Bánh Tét lá cẩm” of Can Tho sets a Vietnam Record
Date: 12/04/2017

Vietnam Book of Records – Vietkings has just announced the establishment of “Top of 100 typical Vietnamese dishes and specialties” in the process of finding and promoting Vietnam cuisine in the period from 2011 to 2016. “Bánh Tét lá cẩm” (Vietnamese cylindrical sticky rice with magenta plant cake) of Can Tho was honored to set a record.
Mrs. Sau Trong with a unique “Bánh Tét lá cẩm”

The representatives of Can Tho’s “Bánh Tét lá cẩm” is Mrs. Huynh Thi Trong, a craftsman (i.e. Sau Trong, living in Section 1, An Thoi ward, Binh Thuy district). With more than half a century of making this cake, Mrs. Sau Trong has innovated  these cakes so that they still keep the traditional flavor but the form is stranger, the taste is more delicious.

If the traditional cakes are simply made with sticky rice around the pork’s fat, onions, green beans, covered with banana leaf and tightened with ties, “Bánh Tét lá cẩm” of Mrs. Sau Trong are different from color to quality. “Bánh Tét lá cẩm”  of Huynh’s family have become famous with that “recipe”. For many years, “Bánh Tét lá cẩm” have been exported to some provinces following their purchase orders, such as: Ca Mau, Kien Giang, An Giang, Ba Ria – Vung Tau, Ho Chi Minh city, even to Ha Noi.

Also set a record in this time, Can Tho has “Vịt nấu chao” cooked by Mr. Nguyen Thanh Giao, a craftsman (Ninh Kieu district).

In theory, the representatives of Vietkings will confer Vietnam Record Certificate for “Bánh Tét lá cẩm” of Can Tho on April 9th in the closing night of the sixth Southern Traditional Cake Festival in 2017.
