Turnover from tourism reached nearly 11,315 billion VND

According to the South-Western emulation agency, in 2017, the Mekong Delta region welcomed 22,457,000 visitors; the total tourism revenue reached nearly 11,315 billion VND. This is an impressive achievement since the revenue this year is more than doubled compared to it 4 years ago (in 2013: about 5.100 billion).

The Mekong Delta provinces have flexibly applied Resolution No. 08-NQ/TW on January, 16th 2017 of the Politburo on the development of tourism into key economic sector. In particular, provinces have issued action plans, construction planning, scheme and plan as well as organized cultural, tourism activities considerably. For instance, An Giang province is a typical example which implements the scientific and technological research program on tourism development; Tien Giang Province promulgates a resolution on tourism development towards 2020 with orientation to 2030, Dong Thap promulgates a resolution on interest rate support for individuals and community tourism development units in the local area; Kien Giang with a plan to implement strategies to develop Vietnamese tourism products by 2025 with a vision to 2040; Can Tho city has specific resolutions to promote tourism as a key economic sector. Promotion and marketing concerning tourism is now getting the special attention from provinces in the region. Long An province has cooperated with six Eastern provinces to make films promoting tourism under the affiliated program of the provincial group in 2017 as well as participated in the conference promoting tourism in Ben Tre associated with the whole Mekong Delta region. Vinh Long province has carries out a potential tourism promotion program in Vinh Long. Dong Thap province organized many special activities at Dong Thap Lotus Festival, coordinated with many units and agencies to implement "S - Vietnam - a wonderful Vietnam" program. Many provinces and cities are participating in promoting tourism image through festivals, exhibitions, trade services, food festivals. For example, Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Day, the Vietnam International Travel Mart VITM in Hanoi and the 2018 National Music of Amateurs Festival in Binh Duong, APEC Week and so on. Through this, we can promote the regional characteristics of culture and cuisine to domestic and international friends.

Two groups of tourism development cooperation in the area operate stably, including the western group with An Giang, Kien Giang, Can Tho, Bac Lieu, Soc Trang, Hau Giang, Ca Mau and the eastern group with Ben Tre, Tien Giang, Tra Vinh, Vinh Long, Long An. Together they create many provinces one destination tour and many countries one destination tour. Particularly, the strategic routes of 5 provinces one destination (Long An - Tien Giang - Dong Thap - An Giang - Kien Giang) and Dong Thap Muoi sub-region have connected with Ho Chi Minh City to form the "One trip, three destinations" in order to facilitate the tourism development cooperation of many provinces in Mekong Delta.

In order to improve the efficiency of tourism development, provinces and cities in Mekong Delta have invested in expanding and upgrading the infrastructure of hotels, high-quality resorts, recreation facilities and services of international standard. During the year, there were 7 typical tourist destinations, 17 2 - 3 stars hotels and so on. In addition, the linking of websites between provinces, which was held alternately, has achieved the goal of linking tourism development in the Mekong Delta. Moreover, the connection of websites has also introduced potentials, advantages, destinations, cultures, festivals, specialties to the world and built typical tourism products of each province.
