Date: 12/05/2024

On the morning of May 7th, the Can Tho City Veteran Association, in collaboration with several Departments, Agencies, and the City Military Command, organized an exchange meeting with veteran soldiers - historical witnesses who participated in the Dien Bien Phu Campaign and the Ho Chi Minh Campaign to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Victory of the Dien Bien Phu Campaign (May 7th, 1954 - May 7th, 2024) and the 49th anniversary of the Complete Liberation of the South (April 30th, 1975 - April 30th, 2024), aiming towards the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the Vietnam People's Army (December 22nd, 1944 - December 22nd, 2024), the 35th anniversary of the National Defense Day (December 22nd, 1989 - December 22nd, 2024), the 35th anniversary of the Vietnam Veteran Association (December 6th, 1989 - December 6th, 2024), and the Patriotic Veteran Model Competition phase (2019 - 2024).
The City Veteran Association presented portrait photos of President Ho Chi Minh and General Vo Nguyen Giap to the Veteran Associations at various levels and the Veteran Contact Boards.

With the theme "From the Dien Bien Phu Campaign to the Ho Chi Minh Campaign - The epic song shines forever", the exchange meeting revisited the historic victory of the Dien Bien Phu Campaign - a campaign that created an everlasting heroic epic. From the glorious historical tradition of our nation, the wise and visionary leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the great President Ho Chi Minh, the significant contributions of the generals, officers, soldiers, youth volunteers, frontline workers, and the entire nation's brave fight and sacrifice, the strength of the whole nation's unity and determination for independence and freedom of our country, the Victory of the Dien Bien Phu Campaign on May 7th, 1954, and the Great Spring Victory with the Ho Chi Minh Campaign on April 30th, 1975 were achieved.

In recent years, the City Veteran Association has implemented various models that embody the principle of "Remembering the Source when Drinking Water," such as "Comrade's Meal," "Commemoration Ceremony for Fallen Comrades," "Taking Care of Heroic Martyrs' Shrines," "Taking Care of Unidentified Martyrs' Graves" at martyrs' cemeteries, and most notably, the program "Comradeship House," which has built and donated thousands of houses to veterans in need. The Association regularly conducts visits, gifts, and care for disabled soldiers, war veterans, and elderly veterans. These are highly humanitarian activities that demonstrate the principle of remembering the source and contribute alongside the city's leadership and mass organizations to share the losses and sacrifices of previous generations.

The City Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Fatherland Front Committee are regularly concerned with directing the Departments, Agencies, mass organizations, and localities to effectively implement the Party's policies, state laws, and further promote the care for wounded soldiers, veterans, martyr families, and revolution contributors. Specifically, they enhance propaganda work and raise people's awareness of the great sacrifices and contributions of those who have contributed to the revolution, in order to stimulate patriotism and unleash the strong spirit of "Remembering the Source when Drinking Water" and "Remembering the Farmer when Eating Fruit," as well as the spirit of national unity and the sense of responsibility towards history and the desire to dedicate oneself to the homeland. They synchronize and effectively implement preferential policies for revolution contributors, the campaign "All people take care of families of wounded soldiers, martyrs and revolution contributors” actively build the Gratitude Fund, pay attention to the construction and renovation of martyrs' cemeteries, hero martyrs' temples, and historical relics, ensuring their solemnity and respect, making these places become "red addresses" for educating the glorious revolutionary history and spirit of the nation to future generations.

Mr. Huynh Thanh Phuong, Chairman of the Can Tho City Veteran Association, shared that today's exchange is an opportunity to review traditions and be even prouder of the glorious Communist Party of Vietnam and the great President Ho Chi Minh, who led the Vietnamese revolution to overcome all challenges and reach the shores of glory. The historical achievements will forever be a source of pride and a great source of strength to encourage the entire Party, people, and army to strive for the successful implementation of the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress, to awaken and realize the aspirations of developing a prosperous and happy country; to strive for Vietnam to become a developed country, following the socialist orientation by the middle of the 21st century. Through this exchange, Mr. Huynh Thanh Phuong expressed his desire for veteran soldiers, representing the generation that participated in the national resistance, to always live healthy, happy lives and be a spiritual support, a shining example of revolutionary ethics and the qualities of Uncle Ho's soldiers for future generations to follow and continue. At the same time, he requested that leaders at all levels, departments, organizations, and localities always pay attention to caring for and supporting the physical and mental well-being of the elderly veteran soldiers, so that they can have a better, happier, and healthier life. The Chairman of the City Veteran Association entrusted the younger generation of officers, soldiers, police, youth union members and students who are the successors of the heroic and strong historical tradition, the spirit of patriotism, faith, and the iron will of "Nothing is more precious than independence and freedom", to continue learning, following the bright examples of their predecessors, and creating new achievements in the new era.
