The solemn organization of the 10th Congress of the Vietnam Fatherland Front in Can Tho City, term 2024-2029

On the morning of April 24th, at the hall of the Can Tho City Military Headquarter, the 10th Congress of the Vietnam Fatherland Front in Can Tho City officially commenced. The Standing Committee of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front selected the Vietnam Fatherland Front Can Tho City to organize the nationwide model Congress of Provincial-level Vietnam Fatherland Front Congresses, term 2024-2029.

Attending the Congress were Mr. Do Van Chien, Party Central Committee Secretary, Party Committee Secretary, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front; Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu, Alternate member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee; leaders and former leaders of Can Tho City throughout different periods; leaders and former leaders of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front; leaders of Vietnam Fatherland Front Committees in provinces and cities nationwide; leaders of the 9th Military Region, along with 250 official delegates representing the people, ethnic groups, religions, intellectuals, and professionals in the city.

The Presidium runs the 10th Congress of the Vietnam Fatherland Front in Can Tho City, term 2024-2029.

With the theme "Unity - Democracy - Creativity - Development," the Congress focused on evaluating the achievements of the Vietnam Fatherland Front system in Can Tho City during the 2019-2024 term in implementing political tasks. During the past term, with a spirit of unity and creativity, the Front and its member organizations actively mobilized and engaged the people in various patriotic movements and campaigns, making practical contributions to the construction of a prosperous and civilized Can Tho City. As a result, Vietnam Fatherland Front at all levels in the city proactively renewed content and methods of mobilization, engaging the people through forms such as dialogues, workshops, visual propaganda, and leveraging the role of respected individuals in the community. Especially, the National Unity Day in residential areas attracted 183,187 participants, with 19,222 collectives, individuals, exemplary models of good deeds and cultured families being commended and rewarded, contributing to enhancing social consensus, strengthening the bond among all social classes, and consolidating the people's trust in the leadership of the Party Committee and the governance of the authorities.

Mr. Do Van Chien, Party Central Committee Secretary, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, and the Standing Committee of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front presented a photograph of President Ho Chi Minh and President Ton Duc Thang to congratulate the Congress.

Furthermore, the Vietnam Fatherland Front at all levels continued to innovate and improve the quality of patriotic movements, campaigns, and extensive deployments to various levels of people in the area , promoting creativity and mobilizing resources in society. During this term, the Vietnam Fatherland Front system at all levels effectively implemented the Nationwide Movement of Unity in Building New Rural Areas and Civilized Urban Areas, which are associated with patriotic movements, contributed to building 36 out of 36 communes meeting the standards of the New Rural Area, 31 out of 36 communes meeting the standards of Advanced New Rural Area, 5 out of 36 communes meeting the standards of the Exemplified New Rural Area, 4 out of 4 districts meeting the standards of the New Rural Area, and 47 out of 47 wards and towns meeting the standards of a civilized urban area; mobilized over 620 billion VND for social welfare programs; raised over 120 billion VND for the "For the Poor" fund, constructing and repairing over 2,819 solidarity houses for poor households. The poverty rate in the entire city by the end of 2023 is expected to be reduced to below 0.21%.

At the same time, promoting democracy, representation, and safeguarding the legitimate rights and interests of the people; monitoring and providing social criticism; participating in the fight against corruption and waste, contributing to building a clean and strong Party and government. The anti-corruption and anti-negative activities carried out by the Front at all levels have been effective; mobilizing the people to participate in supervising officials, party members, civil servants; monitoring and reporting corrupt and negative behaviors...

Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu, Alternate member of the Central Party Committee, Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee, presented a golden plaque to congratulate the Congress.

During the years 2020-2021, when the Covid-19 pandemic broke out, the Vietnam Fatherland Front and its member organizations disseminated information and mobilized the people to raise awareness, actively participate in the prevention and control of Covid-19, and contribute donations. As a result, cash and in-kind contributions amounted to 213 billion VND. Regarding the organization of activities to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Can Tho City under the central government, the city-level Front and its member organizations implemented 178 projects, including building solidarity houses, taking care of social welfare, constructing bridges, roads, creating clean and beautiful urban routes, the "Walking Together for the Poor" program, the "Joining Hands" cultural exchange program... Through these efforts, 116 solidarity houses were handed over to localities, and support was provided for the livelihoods of 20 poor households, with a total amount of 6 billion VND.

Mr. Do Van Chien, Party Secretary of the Central Committee, Party Committee Secretary, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, announced that with the consensus of the Standing Committee of the Can Tho City Party Committee and the Standing Committee of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, the 10th Congress of the Can Tho City Vietnam Fatherland Front, for the term 2024-2029, has been chosen as the model Congress of provincial level. According to Mr. Do Van Chien, this Congress not only holds significance for the Front's work in Can Tho City but also has implications for the Front's work in 62 provinces and cities nationwide, drawing lessons, promoting strengths, and overcoming limitations to successfully organize the 10th Congress of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (2024-2029) as a truly extensive political and social activity, encouraging all classes of people to uphold the tradition and strength of national unity to fulfill the strategic tasks of nation-building and defense the country.

Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu, Alternate member of the Central Party Executive Committee, Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee, delivered a speech.

Speaking at the Congress, Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu, Alternate member of the Central Party Executive Committee, Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee, affirmed that the activities of the city-level Front system have undergone significant innovations, achievements, and have made important contributions, along with the Party, government, and people of the city, to successfully fulfill the tasks through more than half the term of the 14th City Party Congress, the 2020-2025 term, with a focus on the effective implementation of the Resolution and Action Program of the Can Tho City Vietnam Fatherland Front, 9th term.

The Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee proposed that the new City Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front continue to closely follow the political tasks of the city's Party organization. Annually, they should develop a coordinated action program that is specific, practical, and responsive to the needs of the people, for the development of the city. They should also continue to enhance the effectiveness of propaganda work, mobilize members of organizations and all classes of people to fully implement the Party's resolutions and policies of the State; further strengthen their role and position in mobilizing and rallying all classes of people. They should strengthen and promote the unity of the entire nation; ensure high consensus and unity in ideology and action, contributing to the successful implementation of all political tasks of the city's Party organization.

The 89 members of the Can Tho City Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, 10th term, for the period 2024-2029, were introduced at the Congress.

The Congress reached a consensus and unanimously elected 89 out of 91 participants to join the Can Tho City Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, 10th term, for the period 2024-2029. Mr. Nguyen Trung Nhan, Member of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee, was re-elected as the Chairman of the City Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee for the term 2024-2029, along with 3 Deputy Chairmen, 2 Standing Members, and 4 non-specialized Deputy Chairmen. The Congress also elected a delegation of 10 delegates to attend the National Congress of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, 10th term, for the period 2024-2029, including 2 alternate delegates.

* Earlier, on the afternoon of April 23, the 10th Congress of the Can Tho City Vietnam Fatherland Front held its first session. In the first working session, the Congress elected the Presidium, the Secretary of the Congress; approved the Congress Program; sought opinions on the voting methods in the Congress; reported on the evaluation of the activities of the Committee and the Standing Committee of the Can Tho City Vietnam Fatherland Front for the term 2019-2024; presented a summary of the contributions to the draft documents of the Can Tho City Vietnam Fatherland Front Congress; contributions to the draft documents of the National Congress of the Vietnam Fatherland Front; and suggestions for amending the Charter of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, 9th term.
