On July 8, the Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism of Can Tho City held a gathering to celebrate the 65th anniversary of Vietnam Tourism Day (July 9, 1960 – July 9, 2025). The event was attended by leaders of the City’s People’s Council, People’s Committee, Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, tourism officials, and local businesses.

The celebration aimed to reflect on the origins and significance of Vietnam Tourism Day, launch tourism stimulus activities for 2025, and create opportunities for tourism businesses to connect, present new offerings, and strengthen promotion efforts highlighting the city’s image, people, advantages, and tourism potential.

Can Tho boasts a diverse tourism ecosystem, including river tours, orchard visits, floating markets, MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions), culinary tourism, cultural-historical experiences, eco-tourism, and community-based tourism. In the first half of 2025, the city welcomed over 6.3 million visitors, including 2.7 million overnight stays, generating nearly VND 5,450 billion in revenue. These achievements stem from efforts to develop attractive tourism products, a series of tourist-attracting events, and a tourism stimulus program featuring over 150 promotional service packages and tours.

At the conference, delegates proposed various recommendations to boost local tourism amid the ongoing city merger. Key proposals included developing unique and interconnected tourism products, enhancing infrastructure—particularly the Can Tho International Airport and Tran De Seaport—and building major recreational complexes and nighttime tourism experiences to increase visitor spending and extend the length of stay.

Speaking at the event, Vice Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diep commended the tourism sector for its positive contributions and acknowledged the valuable feedback from local businesses.

She noted that the Can Tho International Airport, the nighttime economy, and water-based tourism offerings have yet to reach their full potential. She called on the tourism sector to continue reviewing, surveying, and developing signature tourism products such as ecological, river, MICE, wellness, and festival tourism. She also urged the tourism department to collaborate with the Departments of Industry and Trade and Agriculture to unlock the value of agricultural tourism.

On this occasion, the city’s Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism presented certificates of merit to 17 tourism businesses for their significant contributions to the development of Can Tho’s tourism industry.
