Can Tho city leaders welcomes the Consul General of Canada in Ho Chi Minh City
Date: 17/05/2019

On the afternoon of May 13th, Mr. Truong Quang Hoai Nam, Vice Chairman of Can Tho city People's Committee, had a meeting with the Canadian delegation led by Mr. Kyle Nunas, the Consul General of Canada in Ho Chi Minh City.
Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee Truong Quang Hoai Nam met and worked with Consul General of Canada in Ho Chi Minh City Kyle Nunas.

At the meeting, Mr. Kyle Nunas thanked the enthusiastic reception of the city leaders and expressed his joy when revisiting Can Tho. During this visit, the Consul General wished to discuss about the impacts of climate change; water resource management; plans to build high-tech agricultural zones; how farmers respond to climate change as well as salinization and the use of technology in agricultural production.

In addition, while working with several Vietnamese firms, Mr. Kyle Nunas strongly believed Vietnamese fresh fruits and seafood have good opportunities for exports if advanced technologies are applied into farming - harvesting - processing - packaging process. Moreover, this is also an opportunity for Canadian businesses to seek opportunities for investment cooperation in Can Tho city.

At the working session, Mr. Truong Quang Hoai Nam, Vice Chairman of Can Tho city People's Committee said that Mekong Delta region and Can Tho city in particular hold enormous potential on agricultural and aquatic products. However, due to technological limitations and deficiencies in food processing and packaging, Can Tho fails to meet the requirements of fastidious markets. As Canada is a strong supplier of modern technologies for production and processing of agro-fishery products, Mr. Truong Quang Hoai Nam hopes to receive the General Consul’s support to attract Canadian investments in these fields.

At the same time, Vice Chairman Truong Quang Hoai Nam expressed his hope that in the near future, Can Tho and Canada will join hands to organize several investment promotion and business support programs. This will help investors to better understand the environment, policies and investment potentials of both sides, contributing to enhance the bilateral economic relationship between Vietnam and Canada.
