Can Tho city has 2 dishes in the top 100 dishes and specialties of Vietnam. Specifically, “Vịt nấu chao” (Braised duck in fermented tofu) is honored in the list of “Top 100 local delicacies of Vietnam” and “Bánh tét lá cẩm” (Vietnamese cylindrical glutinous rice with magenta plant cake) is in the list of “Top 100 Vietnamese gifts”.

“Vịt nấu chao” (Braised duck in fermented tofu) is a familiar and famous dish in Can Tho. This dish is present in many eateries and restaurants in Alley 1, Ly Tu Trong Street, Ninh Kieu District.

Regarding “Bánh tét lá cẩm”, the people in Can Tho have transformed it into a kind of bánh tét (Vietnamese cylindrical glutinous rice cake) from the traditional cake of the Southern region with a unique color and taste. It is therefore becoming a specialty gift chosen by many people when coming to Can Tho.

Two famous dishes of Can Tho have continuously set the Vietnam Record since 2011. At the Southern Folk Cake Festival 2017, Vietnam Record Organization awarded the certificate of “Top 100 local delicacies of Vietnam” to craftswoman Huynh Thi Trong (reside in Binh Thuy district) with her “Bánh tét lá cẩm” and craftsman Nguyen Thanh Giao (reside in Ninh Kieu district) with his signature dish - “Vịt nấu chao”. These two respectable craftsmen have passed away, but their skills and traditions are passed down through their successive generations.

According to the Vietnam Record Organization, selected delicacies and gifts will be widely publicized on the media managed by the Vietnam Record Organization and the Top Vietnam Organization. The decision to announce these specialties and gifts will be presented at the Vietnam Record of the Year and Top Vietnam Reunion event, expected to be held in April 2021.
