Canadian enterprises seek cooperation opportunities with Can Tho city in various fields

On the afternoon of December 9th, Mrs. Vo Thi Hong Anh, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho city, had a meeting with Mr. Kyle Nunas, the Consul General of Canada in Ho Chi Minh City to discuss bilateral cooperation in several areas, especially in agriculture, healthcare and the environment.

At the meeting, Mrs. Vo Thi Hong Anh, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho city, informed that Can Tho is now developing high-tech agriculture with clean products; environmental protection and healthcare service. As a leading country in these fields, Canada is expected to support and promote bilateral cooperation with Can Tho in these areas.

In respond to the call of Mrs. Vo Thi Hong Anh, Mr. Kyle Nunas said that environment and climate change are the top priority issues in the world as well as in Canada. Particularly, the Mekong Delta region is facing many difficulties and becoming vulnerable to the severe impacts of climate change. Based on the agreements between the Prime Ministers of two countries, the Consulate General of Canada in Ho Chi Minh City and Canadian enterprises will endeavor to fulfill their cooperation commitments with Can Tho City in the fields of high-tech agriculture with clean products, industrial waste treatment, high-quality healthcare as well as education and training in the field of environment and climate change ...

In addition, Mr. Kyle Nunas also emphasized the export potential of agricultural products in the Mekong Delta. Typically, Vietnamese mangoes are now licensed to export to Canada. In the upcoming time, the Consulate General of Canada in Ho Chi Minh City will call on enterprises in hi-tech agriculture to visit Can Tho to explore opportunities for business cooperation.

According to the Department of Foreign Affairs of Can Tho city, in 2018, Can Tho's total export turnover to Canada was 7.7 million USD, with the main items as rice, aquatic products - seafood, garments; The import turnover was 1.9 million USD with the main items of supplies, raw materials, machinery and equipment. In the first 10 months of 2019, the export turnover to this market was 7.36 million USD and the import turnover was 11.68 million USD.
