Vietnam to hold the first national cultural heritage photo contest and exhibition

In order to arouse pride and love for the motherland, and to preserve, protect, promote cultural heritage values in Vietnam, the Department of Cultural Heritage under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism launch the first national cultural heritage photo contest and exhibition with the theme “Tangible cultural heritage in Vietnam”.

This event is to celebrate the Vietnam Cultural Heritage Day on November 23th and seek valuable photographic works honoring different types of intangible cultural heritage (architectural works, historic and cultural sites, landscapes).

The most outstanding artworks will be selected for exhibitions. They will also be used for photo books to be released with the theme of Vietnamese cultural heritage. The selected photos will also be posted on various social media platforms for public view. The contest will contribute to promoting the cultural, scientific, historical, and aesthetic values of cultural heritage in general and tangible cultural heritage in particular to the public at home and abroad.

Competitors are professional or non-professional photographers, Vietnamese citizens or foreigners living and working in Vietnam, aged 18 years or older.

The work content is supposed to clearly illustrate the theme and highlight the typical value of cultural heritage. It must have a clear message, a new and unique perspective; excellence in photographic techniques and language; creative layout; beautiful light, and aesthetic image. Moreover, the submitted work must not violate the Party’s guidelines, the State’s policies and laws, and the contest’s regulations. Furthermore, the work must be in accordance with the fine customs, and traditions of Vietnam.

Candidate works will be sent to the Organizing Committee until September 30th, 2021 via email: dsvh@bvhttdl.gov.vn, titled “Photos for the First National Cultural Heritage Photo Contest and Exhibition” or printed photos (size 30x40cm), attached with CD/DVD or USB storing the photos sent by post or in-person to the Organizing Committee at No. 51 Ngo Quyen, Hoan Kiem, Hanoi.

A launching ceremony for the event is scheduled to begin in late May, with the competition’s awards ceremony and heritage photo exhibition set to take place at the end of the fourth quarter of 2021.

There will be First, Second, Third, and Consolation prizes for album and single. Some other awards as proposed by the Judges and the Organizing Committee. The award structure can be changed, based on the quality of photographic work.
