Currently, Binh Thuy, Thot Not, and Phong Dien are three districts in Can Tho city developing community-based tourism. However, each locality has its own development model, not equal in quantity and quality. Based on the assessment of the current situation, the participants in the seminar proposed solutions to awaken the potentials and develop this type of tourism model suitable to the local characteristics of each locality. In particular, the city’s government focuses on promoting agritourism.
In fact, the community-based tourism in Can Tho is still small, unconnected, and has not created a strong brand name or a typical product. Phong Dien and Thot Not have plans to develop this type of tourism model, but their products are not special and distinctive. Meanwhile, Binh Thuy develops community-based tourism while promoting its own identities, thereby meeting market demand. However, there is no proper plan to promote its potential.
Therefore, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Can Tho city hold a seminar to propose solutions to preserve indigenous cultural factors and build typical tourism products. Additionally, there must be appropriate policy, planning and management mechanisms, human resource training, branding, and promotion planning; investing in infrastructure in community-based tourism sites as well as creating connections and cooperation between travel agencies and the local working people in the community-based tourism, agritourism, etc.
