Exhibition of books and photos entitled “Vietnamese ethnic groups”

On August 17, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism opened the exhibition of books and photos entitled “Vietnamese ethnic groups” at Can Tho City Library.

This is a practical activity to celebrate the 73rd anniversary of the August Revolution (19/8/1945 - 19/8/2018) and the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam (2/9/1945 - 2/9/2018); and 15th anniversary of Can Tho city as a centrally-controlled city (2004-2019).

The exhibition of books and photos entitled “Vietnamese ethnic groups” is a collection of valuable materials which are collected and selected from Can Tho City Library and other ones. With that, it expresses the right lines and policies of the Party and Government on the work of ethnic groups through every revolution period. It also shows that each ethnic group has its own culture, creating the unification in the diversity of cultural identity of Vietnamese people.

 The theme of the exhibition is divided into 2 parts: Part 1 – The collection namely “The great family of ethnic groups in Viet Nam” conducted by the Center for maps and educational pictures – The Vietnam Museum of Ethnology, including 54 photos of 54 ethnic groups of Viet Nam, such as: Kinh, Tay, Thai, Muong, Khmer, Hoa, Dao, Gia Rai and so on. Each photo expresses basic information about the geography, population, lifestyles of each ethnic group. Part two: Introducing 800 documents referring to the lines, policies and laws of the Party and Government on the work of ethnic groups as well as the history and culture of ethnic groups of Viet Nam in general. Accordingly, these documents are arranged into three geographic areas (North, Central and South).

The exhibition aims to introduce, honor and promote the cultural values of 54 ethnic groups. In addition, it educates people in the community, especially the young generation, on the pride and sense of preserving and promoting the cultural heritage of Viet Nam in the process of the integration and development of the nation.

 The exhibition in Can Tho City library will be opened from August 17 to September 5 in 2018. Then, it will be widely held to serve people in other districts in Can Tho city.
