Periodic art performance programs for tourists in Can Tho

In the past few years, along with the growth of the national tourism, Can Tho tourism has constantly developed and achieved many encouraging achievements, gradually affirming the position of a dynamic city as well as an economic and tourism hub of the whole Mekong Delta region. With the close attention from Can Tho city Party Committee, Can Tho city People’s Committee, Can Tho Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has made efforts to build new tourism products to meet the increasing demand of tourists, especially the periodic art performances for tourists and locals.

1. Guitar performance and calligraphy writing program (street art):

Time: Every Sunday evening, from 19:30 to 22:00.

Location: Ninh Kieu Pier (the area near the pedestrian bridge).

Performers: Guitar Passion Club and Can Tho Calligraphy Club.

Management unit: Can Tho Tourism Development Center, Can Tho Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

The music program is made by Guitar Passion Club members with guitars, cajóns, violins, bamboo flute, etc. Their acoustic music is homely and melodic. Although they are just amateur artists, they have inspired and attracted many visitors with their passion for music.

2. Traditional art performances:

Time: Every Saturday evening, from 19:00 to 20:00.

Location: Ninh Kieu Pier (the area near Can Tho Old Market).

Performers: Artists of Can Tho city.

Management unit: Can Tho Cultural Center, Can Tho Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

The program takes place periodically every Saturday evening with the following forms namely "Music and Dance" and "Don Ca Tai Tu" (Southern Folk Music) performed by musicians, singers and artists who work in and out of the city public units.

The program has been well received by the audience, contributing to the uniqueness of the city tourism and creating a lively atmosphere for Ninh Kieu Pier on the weekend.

3. "Playground for Don Ca Tai Tu" (Southern Folk Music) at the pedestrian bridge

Time: Every Friday evening, from 19:00 to 20:00.

Location: Pedestrian Bridge, Ninh Kieu Pier (The Lotus area on the pedestrian bridge).

Performers: Artists of Can Tho city.

Managgement unit: Can Tho Cultural Center, Can Tho Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

The artists from the Southern Folk music clubs in the city perform every Friday night on the Pedestrian Bridge. The program aims to preserve and promote the traditional and unique art of the Southern region, which has been recognized by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage, representative of humanity. The playground is also an opportunity for talented music artists to see each other, exchange experiences and sing to entertain tourists and those who love this traditional art form. Here, visitors can meet and sing with artists or the band in order to make the event more exciting and joyful. 

4. The periodic performances of traditional art and Don Ca Tai Tu at Cai Rang Floating Market:

Time: Every Sunday morning, from 6:00 to 7:00.

Location: On the wooden boat (Around Cai Rang Floating Market).

Performers: The artists of Cai Luong Tay Do (Tay Do reformed theater) troupe.

Unit in charge: Tay Do Theater, Can Tho Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Every Sunday morning, there is a wooden boat floating on the river, taking musicians, artists and singers to Cai Rang floating market. It is sometimes anchored at the place full of boats, so singers and artists could perform sweet, captivating folk songs to tourists and traders. Here, visitors can meet and sing with artists, musicians and this creates a joyful, exciting atmosphere for tourists and traders at the floating market. This new model contributes to the uniqueness of the market and it is loved by the merchants and tourists. It also contributes to the implementation of the project to preserve and develop Cai Rang floating market, as well as preserving and promoting Don Ca tai Tu (Southern Folk Music), which is the distinctive feature of the Southern region - the intangible cultural heritage recognized by UNESCO./.
