Exquisite Beauty of Can Tho Sunflower Garden
Date: 03/01/2019

Situated about 2 kilometers away from Can Tho City, the sunflower garden in Hung Phu 2 Residential Area in Cai Rang District has recently become one of the most attractive destinations for youngsters from all provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta.
Many youngsters visit and take photos with the stunningly beautiful sunflower garden.

When it comes to sunflowers, people would immediately think of immense flower fields stretching beyond the eyesight in Da Lat City or Nghe An Province. However, if you do not have enough time and money for a faraway trip, you can still immerse yourselves in the vibrant yellow sunflowers in a spot just two kilometers away from Can Tho City. As soon as the photos of this flower garden were posted on Facebook and some backpackers’ forums, many people have quickly identified its exact location.

The owner of this garden is a local dweller named Nguyen Minh Tao. To welcome tourists continuously, Mr. Tao did not cover the whole area of 300 square meters with sunflowers but divided it into halves so that he could plant the flowers interchangeably. When one row of sunflowers withered, other rows of eye-catching yellow flowers bloom. Mr. Nguyen Minh Tao says, “On the internet, people usually post photos taken by themselves on Facebook, which has inspired me to plant this flower garden for those who want to take photos.”

Ms. Le Thi Cam Doan, a visitor from Soc Trang Province, says, “Being immersed in the vividly yellow flowers showing their beauty makes me so comfortable. It is surprising to know that in an area of fruit orchards and waterways like Can Tho City is a large and beautiful sunflower garden like this.”

With excitement, Ms. Nguyen Tran Mai Phuong, a visitor from Vinh Long Province, comments, “As soon as we hear about this sunflower garden, my friends and I have decided to take time to pay a visit and take photos in this spot.

The sunflowers here can wow anyone because they are big, come in similar sizes, and are planted in straight rows, which is convenient for people to move around watching flowers and taking pictures. The sunflower breed that Mr. Tao uses originates from foreign countries and they can blossom all year round. Their big flowers bloom in a shining yellow color. According to Mr.  Tao, taking care of sunflowers is not difficult since the nutrient’s demand is not high. The only problem is that the flower trees may fall down and the petals may be battered. However, with the current weather condition, the flower garden is in a very “ideal” state.

Besides rows of sunflowers, Mr. Tao has also set up some miniatures such as triangle-shaped roofs, windmills, tents, and so on as extra backgrounds for nicer pictures. “This sunflower garden is extraordinary. It is more than special that there can be a sunflower garden in a delta like this area. This garden is appropriate for the youngsters to come and take pictures,” says Mr. Phan Huu Hoa, a photographer from Vinh Long Province.

For every visit of those who come to take pictures, Mr. Tao charges them 50,000 VND as compensation for his care of the garden. The time allotted for the visitors to take pictures is unlimited. Mr. Tao’s creative way of doing business has contributed one more fascinating sightseeing site to Can Tho City.
