The initiative has focused on analyzing the current situation of using nylon bags Con Son islanders and educating them about the negative impacts of using plastic bags on environment and people’s health, thereby offering some solutions and action programs to gradually develop people’s habits of using eco-friendly substitutes for plastic.
The time to implement the initiative is from March to the end of December, 2018. The total budget of this plan is nearly 240 million VND and is funded by Can Tho city’s (ODA) Project Management Board and Vietravel - Can Tho branch. At present, there are 22 households doing tourism in Con Son respond to the project and are supported with signs and logos to identify their homes as garden houses; many households are donated handbags, glass glue, plastic containers, paper bags, non-woven bags as well as biodegradable bags to store food and drink instead of plastic bags.
