After 2 years of implementation, Resolution 03-NQ/TU has been concretized by authorities of all levels and sectors with practical and appropriate documents and programs, thus creating positive changes in many aspects. The specific strength of Can Tho tourism is urban rivers; associated with historical and cultural relics; combined with meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE). Establishing and developing tourism products are in the direction of diversification and raising quality. The events, festivals are increasingly professional and widely expand; propaganda, marketing and promotion strategies are always renovated; key tourism infrastructure system is being invested. The city also supports people doing business in tourism; constitute a number of policies to attract tourism investment; launch new airline routes and increase flight frequency; focus on human resources training in tourism.

Can Tho tourism in the past two years has an average increase of 20% per year, the total revenue from tourism increases 28% per year on average, the number of tourists and turnover has increased 2-3 times on average before the implementation of Resolution 03-NQ/TU. In the first 10 months of 2018, Can Tho tourism welcomed 7.4 million visitors; the estimated number of visitors will reach about 8.42 million at the end of the year, an increase of 1 million tourists compared to 2017. Total tourism revenue in the first 10 months reached 2,990 billion VND, an increase of 18.85% over the same period in 2017 (estimated to reach about 3.526 billion at the end of 2018).

The conference also discusses the disadvantages and difficulties of Can Tho tourism as well as the necessity to set up solutions regarding tourism product development, especially waterway products, in the direction of diversification and quality assurance; open new airline routes; strengthen cooperation, renew the promotion methods to be more diverse and focused; create conditions for investment in tourism infrastructure and human resources training; focus on building the tourist environment.

Mr. Tran Quoc Trung, Secretary of the Can Tho city Party Committee, appreciated the achievements and efforts of the entire political system in actively implementing the Resolution 03-NQ/TU, helping Can Tho tourism gradually change its appearance, becoming the key economic sector in accordance with the orientation, raising people’s awareness about the role and the position of tourism associated with the city’s development. Mr. Secretary orders to continue promoting Resolution 03-NQ/TU more actively, step-by-step overcoming weaknesses, focusing on solving tourism products and tourism infrastructure issues; launching new airline routes, improving human resources training ; implementing approved schemes and programs quickly; enhancing tourism promotion more effectively.
