Can Tho city leaders received the Indian Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City

On the afternoon of September 22nd, 2020, Mr. Tran Quoc Trung, Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Party Committee of Can Tho city; Mr. Dao Anh Dung, Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee of Can Tho city, Permanent Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho city, welcomed Mr. Pranay Verma - Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of India in Vietnam and Mr. Madan Mohan Sethi - Consul General of the Republic of India in Ho Chi Minh City to Can Tho city.

At the meeting, Mr. Tran Quoc Trung, Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Party Committee of Can Tho city, highly appreciated the long-standing friendship between Vietnam and India and hoped that this relationship would develop to a new height through strengthening investment cooperation in various fields.

Particularly in 2019, the Can Tho - India export turnover was only 1.4 million USD. Can Tho mainly exported to India aquatic products, garments, agricultural products, and processed agricultural products while imported pharmaceutical materials, veterinary medicines, and some other items such as leather, raw materials, machinery, etc. Due to the COVID-19 epidemic, the Can Tho - India export turnover in the first six months of 2020 was only 0.8 million USD with garments, agricultural products, and processed agricultural products as the main items. Besides, Can Tho city also promotes cooperation with India in the fields of investment cooperation; education and training; health care; diplomacy, cultural exchange, and so on. Mr. Tran Quoc Trung hoped that in the near future, Mr. Pranay Verma will support and introduce Indian investors to Can Tho city to promote investment cooperation in various areas, including training and development of human resources, healthcare, processing and preserving of agricultural and aquatic products, biotechnology, etc.

Mr. Pranay Verma - Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of India in Vietnam was delighted with the development steps of Vietnam – India comprehensive strategic partnership. In the coming time, it is necessary to promote cooperation between the two countries in general and localities in particular, in terms of tourism, trade, and diplomacy. Ambassador Pranay Verma suggested that the delegation of Can Tho city should come to seek opportunities for cooperation in India with him as a bridge to support the delegation. Currently, India is promoting a number of flight routes connecting India with Southeast Asian countries. Therefore, Mr. Pranay Verma believed that this will support and facilitate cooperation between the two sides.
