According to the report from the People's Committee of Cai Rang district, the city has built and implemented the project “Conservation and Development of Cai Rang floating market” under Decision No. 2197/QD-UBND (July 8th, 2016) of the municipal People's Committee. The project is being carried out in two periods, 2016-2018 and 2019-2020 with a total of 13 items. After 4 years of implementation, the project has had many outstanding results. Particularly, many projects works are implemented such as collecting garbage collection by boats; the system of beacons for the signaling of shipping lanes, implementation of communication activities to raise people’s awareness; relocation of 38 floating rafts to safe anchorage places; renovation of the electricity system on rivers; preferential loans for 498 households in Cai Rang Floating Market; the construction of the rest area, the landing stage pontoon and public lavatory on the river, etc. Accordingly, the output of agricultural products for consumption at Cai Rang Floating Market shows signs of stability; food service, souvenirs, passenger transportation services develop to help many households stabilize their lives. The number of cruise ships is constantly increasing. There is also an increase in the number of tourists to Cai Rang Floating Market by 12-15% per year. furthermore, tourism products and services in the Floating Market are booming and diversified, which have met the needs of domestic and foreign tourists.

Speaking at the seminar, Mr. Duong Tan Hien, Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee, stated that the locality should continue to strictly implement measures to prevent and control the Covid-19 pandemic in the new situation, ensuring safety for local residents and tourists. Mr. Duong Tan Hien asked the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and the People's Committee of Cai Rang District to promote the cultural value of Cai Rang Floating Market, organize workshops to improve skills together with knowledge and strengthen people’s livelihood from tourism activities at the Floating Market.

Besides, Mr. Hien also asked departments, agencies, and divisions in the city to conduct surveys on the demand for clean water, domestic electricity, and other needs to propose solutions to support small businesses. Moreover, the municipal authorities reviewed items and proposed solutions to effectively attract investment; monitor embankment construction works, associated with the development of Cai Rang Floating Market; build quality tourism products and services, associated with the life of local traders; create jobs for the locals; protect the environmental landscape, the food safety, and hygiene issues; ensure the security order and the control of price; construct civilized and friendly people in the tourism sector; build a safe, friendly and quality tourism environment to attract tourists.

Mr. Duong Tan Hien assigned the People's Committee of Cai Rang district to coordinate with relevant departments, agencies, and units to review and evaluate the proposed works, ensuring the feasibility, focusing on the general development planning of the district. Moreover, The People's Committee of Cai Rang district must have a long-term vision forecasts in the near future to promote trade, economic development, and contribute to exploiting local tourism potential.
