Leaders of Can Tho city met and worked with the South Korean business delegation on ports and logistics

On the afternoon of April 23th, Mr. Truong Quang Hoai Nam, Vice Chairman of Can Tho city People's Committee had a working session with the business delegation from the Republic of Korea led by Mr. Lee Dae Jik, director of the agriculture and maritime affairs bureau of Gyeonggi province and director of the Pyeongtaek port company, to explore opportunities for cooperation in port and logistics services.

At the meeting, Mr. Truong Quang Hoai Nam, Vice Chairman of Can Tho city People's Committee introduces some outstanding information regarding the orientations on economic and transport development in Can Tho, especially in ports and logistics services. For example, the opening of new flight routes connecting Can Tho with other provinces, cities domestically and internationally as well as the completion of My Thuan - Can Tho highway project in 2020 - 2021. Mr. Truong Quang Hoai Nam affirmed that the Government as well as Can Tho authorities always pay close attention and endeavor to improve, develop these two areas.

In Can Tho, Sai Gon Newport Corporation opens two ports: Tan Cang - Cai Cui (Cai Rang district), Tan Cang - Thot Not (Thot Not district). Can Tho Port Joint Stock Company also operates two ports: Hoang Dieu Port (Binh Thuy District) and Cai Cui Port (Cai Rang District). Moreover, Can Tho city has 170km of inland waterway, of which 2 national transportation routes go through Xa No canal and Rach Soi canal, connecting with Mekong Delta provinces. Road together with air traffic are also being focused and invested greatly to gradually become the transport hub of the region connecting with places inside and outside of Vietnam.

Mr. Truong Quang Hoai Nam said that with the potential development conditions of Can Tho, more and more domestic and foreign enterprises have come to this land to invest, especially Korean businesses. For instance, the Korea - Vietnam Incubator Park (KVIP), which is the cooperation project between the Government of Vietnam and South Korea, is aimed at researching and developing major industries with competitive advantages of Can Tho city and Mekong Delta provinces. In addition, there are also several Korean enterprises doing business effectively in Can Tho namely Tae Kwang Can Tho Co., Ltd. (shoe manufacturing), LOTTE Mart trade center and so on.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Lee Dae Jik, director of the agriculture and maritime affairs bureau of Gyeonggi province, director of the Pyeongtaek port company thanked the warm welcome of Can Tho city leaders. He said that the members of the business delegation found the potential for cooperation in Can Tho city is huge and expected to contribute to the development of the city’s trade through logistics and port system. At the same time, Mr. Lee Dae Jik also hoped that through this meeting, the two sides will establish a good cooperation relationship in the future.
