Can Tho city’s leaders celebrate Chol Chnam Thmay (New Year) festival 2021 with the Khmer

On the morning of April 9th, leaders of the municipal Party Committee, municipal People's Council, municipal People's Committee, Vietnam Fatherland Front, and other departments, committees, agencies of Can Tho city have extended their best wishes to the dignitaries, monks, Achar, the Board of Directors of the pagodas, the Khmer community in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho to mark their traditional Chol Chnam Thmay (New Year) festival in 2021.
Mr. Le Quang Manh - Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Party Committee of Can Tho city - presented gifts and extended his best wishes to the city’s Solidarity Association of Patriotic Buddhist Monks on the occasion of the Chol Chnam Thmay (New Year) festival 2021.

Mr. Le Quang Manh, Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Party Committee of Can Tho city, visited the  Solidarity Association of Patriotic Buddhist Monks of Can Tho city, Munirangsay Pagoda (Ninh Kieu District), Khmer Theravada Buddhist Institute, Pothisomron Pagoda (O Mon district), and Serayvongsa Pagoda (Thoi Lai district).

On behalf of the municipal Party Committee, the municipal People's Council, the municipal People's Committee, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Can Tho city, Mr. Le Quang Manh extended his best wishes to the dignitaries, monks, Achar, the Board of Directors of the pagodas, the Khmer community in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho for a joyful, happy and peaceful Chol Chnam Thmay (New Year) festival. The Secretary of the Party Committee of Can Tho city praised the Khmer community for their good implementation of the Party’s and State’s guidelines and policies and success in COVID-19 prevention and control while maintaining economic development and ensuring the livelihoods of the people.

According to Mr. Le Quang Manh, this is the first year that the city organizes a military-civilian festival to celebrate the Khmer’s traditional New Year, also known as the Chol Chnam Thmay festival in the Khmer Theravada Buddhist (O Mon district) on April 10th. The festival shows the municipal authorities’ attention to the material and spiritual lives of the Khmer community. On the occasion of the Chol Chnam Thmay festival in 2021, Mr. Le Quang Manh, Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Party Committee of Can Tho city, expressed his hope that the Khmer community will have a happy, exciting, and peaceful New Year and encouraged Khmer people to keep solidarity and trust in the Party and State’s leadership and to support each other in economic activities.

In response to the congratulations of the city's leaders, the representatives of the pagodas and the Khmer community thanked the municipal administration’s attention to the Khmer traditional festival. They also highly valued the Party and State’s support for local Khmer people, particularly policies on Khmer cultural value preservation. The Buddhist monks, Achar, the Management Board of the pagodas affirmed that they would continue to strictly observe the Party’s and State’s guidelines and policies, actively take part in national patriotic emulation movements, join the upcoming elections of deputies to the 15th National Assembly and people’s councils at all levels, encourage the Khmer to promote national solidarity as well as the economic development, and seriously implement the pandemic prevention and control measures according to the Health Ministry’s instructions.

* Also on April 9th, Mr. Tong Van Nhin - Permanent Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Can Tho city, and his delegation extended congratulations and presented gifts to dignitaries, monks, Achar in Pitukhosarangsay pagoda (Ninh Kieu District), Sanvor Pothinhen Pagoda (O Mon district), Ampervone Pagoda, Neryvone Pagoda, Phesachevone Pagoda, Prummanyvongsa Temple (Thoi Lai District). The delegation led by Mr. Dinh Trung Truc - Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Can Tho city, visited Muniutdomrangsay pagoda, Settodor pagoda (Co Do district), and Samakimes Pagoda (Vinh Thanh district).

The delegations from Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Can Tho city, departments, and agencies give their best wishes to the Khmer Buddhist dignitaries, monks, nuns, followers, and the Khmer people a happy, joyful and peaceful new year. At the meeting, the representatives of the city’s delegations urged the Khmer people and Khmer Theravada Buddhist followers in the Mekong Delta to strictly observe the Party’s and State’s guidelines and policies, actively take part in national patriotic emulation movements, continue to promote the spirit of solidarity, uphold the spirit of self-reliance, determine to rise and overcome all difficulties, further uphold their homeland’s traditions, do business well, actively join hands to build strong political systems at the grassroots level, and become good examples for younger generations to follow.

The Khmer people wrap cakes to prepare the New Year festival with the theme “Military - civilian in Can Tho to celebrate Chol Chnam Thmay New Year festival in 2021", which takes place on April 9th and 10th at the Khmer Theravada Buddhist Institute, O Mon district.
