Binh Thuy Temple was built in 1844. It was recognized as a national historical and cultural monument by the Ministry of Culture and Information on September 5th, 1989.
This year, the Ky Yen Thuong Dien ceremony will be hold in three days, from May 7th to 9th, 2017 (i.e. from 12th to 14th of lunar April) with two parts: the ceremony and the activities. The first one includes some main points, such as taking Sac Than for a trip, changing Sac Than’s cover ceremony, Than Nong ceremony, Tuc Yet ceremony, Chanh Te ceremony. In the second part, some activities will be organized by the Organizing Board together with Can Tho Department of Culture and Information, such as exhibiting books, offering calligraphy and portrait, setting booths to promote tourism and festival “Binh Thuy’s cuisine”, folk games, traditional boat race, steamed sticky rice cooking contest, orchid contest. Especially, there will be a classical drama performed by Minh To every night.
The Ky Yen Thuong Dien ceremony aims to worship the noble, the heroes of the nation who had a contribution to reclaim, open land, build and preserve the nation. In addition, people pray for rain, wind, peace. The holidays have educated and raised awareness of the Vietnamese in keeping the habits, customs and traditional festivals of the nation.
