Department of Agriculture and Rural Development is a specialized agency of Can Tho City People's Committee. Its functions are to advise and assist the City People 's Committee in performing the function of state management of agriculture, forestry, fisheries ; irrigation and rural development; flood and storm prevention and combat; safety in agricultural, forestall and fishery products from the production stage to final stage; the public services in agriculture and rural development; to perform a number of tasks and authorities under the authorization of the City People's Committee and in accordance with law.

Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has a legal status, its own seal, separate account; subject to the direction and management of the organization, staffing and operation of Can Tho City People's Committee and at the same time the department is under professional direction, guidance, inspection of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development .
