According to the Vietnam Association of Architects, this year’s competition received 239 entries. After a thorough evaluation, the Council selected and honored the most outstanding works. Specifically, the 2024-2025 National Architecture Awards granted 1 Grand Prize, 5 Gold Prizes, 12 Silver Prizes, 35 Bronze Prizes, and 1 Community Choice Award based on public votes. Additionally, certificates of merit were presented to organizations with notable achievements and a special prize for contributions to architecture development.
The Grand Prize was awarded to the Vietnam Military History Museum, designed by a group of architects including Hiroshi Miyakawa, Trịnh Việt A, Michio Oizumi, Nguyễn Đình Đông, and Gen Sugiyama from Nikken Sekkei LTD.
Notably, among the five Gold Prizes was a project titled “Reconstruction of the Nu and Nam Tong Villages (Lao Cai)” by a team led by architects Hoàng Thúc Hào, Nguyễn Xuân Ngọc, Vũ Xuân Sơn and associates from 1+1>2 International Architecture and Construction JSC.
Can Tho City proudly secured two Bronze Prizes in this year’s National Architecture Awards. One was awarded to the Temple of Hùng Kings in Can Tho under the public architecture category. The project was designed by architects Nguyễn Thanh Tại, Nguyễn Đức Thịnh, Vũ Đình Dũng, and Lý Lết from the Urban Planning Institute under the Department of Construction of Can Tho City.
The second awarded work from Can Tho was “Nhà Cần Thơ” (Can Tho House) by architect Nguyễn Nhỏ from AD9 Architects, recognized under the housing architecture category.
The Temple of Hùng Kings in Can Tho broke ground in June 2019 and was inaugurated on April 6, 2022. The complex spans over 39,000 square meters and includes several key features: the main temple, the main gate, the ceremonial gate (Nghi Môn), and a stele house. The main temple stands out with its stylized bronze drum motif, surrounded by 18 arc-shaped walls symbolizing the 18 dynasties of the Hùng Kings. Each arc is decorated with patterns inspired by the iconic Đông Sơn bronze drums.
The National Architecture Awards are held biennially and co-organized by the Vietnam Association of Architects, the Ministry of Construction, and the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism. As one of the official state awards dedicated to architecture, it also serves as a basis for consideration for the prestigious Ho Chi Minh Prize and State Prize in Literature and Arts.
