Vietravel Can Tho officially launched the “Free Walking Tours” - Experience Can Tho City like a local on April 22, 2023. The tour operates regularly, starting at 4 p.m. every Saturday. With a tour guide from Vietravel, tourists will begin their journey to explore famous destinations in Can Tho city: Can Tho Museum, Pitu Khosa Rangsay Pagoda or Munir Ansay Pagoda, Ong Pagoda, Ninh Kieu Wharf and Can Tho night market.

At Can Tho Museum, visitors will contemplate the National Treasures of the ancient Oc eo culture, discover the typical cultural features of 3 ethnic groups Kinh - Hoa - Khmer and learn about the process of formation and development of Can Tho City as well as the heroic history of fighting against foreign invaders and defending the motherland. Walking along the busy streets of the inner city, visitors will visit one of two Pagodas: Pitu Khosa Rangsay or Munir Ansay. Both are the most beautiful Khmer Pagodas in the Mekong Delta. Here, the tour guide will introduce the typical features of the architecture and beliefs of the Khmer culture...

Joining the “Free Walking Tours” journey on the first days, French tourist Shopie Mercery said: "I have been to Can Tho for two days and was lucky to experience the "Free Walking Tours" on the first day. This tour is a great idea because it can introduce visitors to many destinations. After all, when you arrive in a new land, normally you don’t know where to go. I feel very excited at this journey and I am also very impressed with the architecture of the Pagodas here.” Not only exploring the fascinating architecture and the local culture but Shopie Mercery and friends also excitedly tried some delicious street food such as Pomelo sweet soup and Fried Rice Flour Cake at Munir Ansay Pagoda.

These dishes are known only to the locals and are rarely introduced or widely promoted. Tourist Le Minh Thy Tho said: “I feel excited when experiencing the “Free Walking Tours”. Participating in this journey, I can see Can Tho from a different angle. I feel really close to the locals, like immersing myself in life here. Every destination has something unique to teach me. For instance, Can Tho Museum can help me to better understand the culture of indigenous people, and the process of formation and development of Can Tho City from time to time. A free tour like this will stimulate tourism because it can attract many tourists, especially international visitors who want to learn about the local culture.”

Walking through the busy streets, visitors will stop at Ninh Kieu Wharf and visit many famous destinations in Can Tho city, such as Ong Pagoda imbued with the cultural identity of the Hoa ethnic group; Can Tho pedestrian bridge - an iconic symbol of Can Tho city and the hustle and bustle night market. Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Can Tho City Dao Thi Thanh Thuy said: “Free Walking Tours” of Vietravel Can Tho contributes to diversifying the tourism products in Can Tho because tourists can now explore Can Tho City by walking besides traveling by boat or electric car. We hope this project will attract more tourists, especially international ones. The authorities of Can Tho will also support and promote the project.”

Director of Vietravel Can Tho Le Dinh Minh Thy said: “Free Walking Tours was first implemented in Can Tho city. The tour is completely free, aiming to attract visitors to Can Tho city through a walking tour to explore the city. Walking not only helps tourists exercise but can also give them new perspectives on local culture and cuisine in a more detailed and interesting way. Currently, we are working with partners, hotels, or travel agencies to encourage visitors to participate in “Free Walking Tours” as a way to promote Can Tho tourism. We also create a QR Code for registration or tourists can go directly to Tao Dan Park at 4pm every Saturday to participate in the free tour. There, we have a team to support and guide tourists. Regarding the upcoming orientation, we are ready to build new tours with new destinations so that visitors can experience more destinations and cuisine of Can Tho City.”
