Son islet is located in the middle of Hau River, in Bui Huu Nghia Ward, Binh Thuy District, Can Tho city. To reach this place, you can park your vehicle at Co Bac wharf and take a ferry to the islet.

The community-based tourism in Son islet has started in 2014. Since then, the local authorities have concretized the main road on the islet. Therefore, visitors can walk or cycle along this road to admire the peaceful scene of the countryside with green trees and enjoy the fresh air here.

Coming to Son islet, you cannot miss the wonderful flying snakehead fish of Tin Hoa garden. Mr. Le Trung Tin is a gardener and has been raising snakehead fish for a long time. Knowing the characteristics of the fish, Mr. Le Trung Tin usually knocks on the food bucket with his fork every fish feeding time so that they are getting used to the knocking sound. When the fish got used to the sound, he just knocked on the bucket and the fish immediately flew up out of the water to eat the food. Unexpectedly, this turns out a unique tourism product, making the community-based tourism in Son islet more famous.

Mr. Pham Thanh Cong (living in Ho Chi Minh City), expressed his thoughts: “I have been to Can Tho city with my family twice. Every time we get to Son islet, my children want to see the flying snakehead fish because it is strange and interesting. After the show, we can enjoy many delicious fruits such as grapefruit, guava ... in the garden, try walking on the bamboo bridge on the lotus pond, or rowing”.

The fruits on Son islet are very fresh and delicious. When coming to Son islet, people are free to stroll around the seasonal fruit gardens such as rambutan, longan, Burmese grape, orange, Nam Roi grapefruit, mangosteen,... with average ticket price ranging from 15,000 - 30,000 VND/person.

You can try many delicious fruits in the garden or buy them as a gift for your loved ones. In addition, the experience of scooping the ditch to catch fish is a popular activity among many tourists when coming to Son islet. You can catch snakehead fish by hand, grill it and enjoy it on the spot. This will be an unforgettable memory for visitors when traveling to the Western Region in general and Son islet in particular.

If you want to make your own cakes, you can meet Mrs. Bay Muon, a famous folk cake artisan in Can Tho. All cakes here are handmade from completely natural ingredients by Mrs. Bay Muon.

Tools for making folk cakes are also passed down from generation to generation, from the flour mill to the cake mold. Many visitors are interested in grinding flour with a stone mortar by themselves for the first time. There are many kinds of folk cakes such as: bánh kẹp cuốn, bánh lá mít, etc.

Mr. Bay Bon's fish raft (Ly Van Bon) on Son islet is always crowded with people. Mr. Bay Bon has up to 30 fish cages along the Hau River, next to Son Islet. He raises more than 10 types of fish, including many rare species of the Mekong River, especially Redtail Catfish, Giant barb, Jullien's golden carp, Jade perch (Scortum Barcoo), Mekong giant catfish, Pangasid-catfish, Blue Botia, and so on. Moreover, Mr. Bay Bon also raised Koi fish with water from Hau river instead of treated water.

In 2016, Mr. Bay Bon “turned” his fish raft into a tourist destination. His fish raft is different from other community-based tourist attractions in Can Tho city and the Mekong Delta thanks to the unique fish along with the cool location of the raft on the Hau River.

In the past, Son islet mainly welcomed visitors on weekends. Currently, the number of visitors to Son islet increased dramatically. They usually travel by group with about 30-40 people per group. Soon after the tourism sector in Can Tho city resumed activities, households participating in the community-based tourism of Son islet have decorated their gardens and prepared for the tourism product “Son islet in the old days” to welcome guests in mid-November. “Son islet in the old days” is a series of activities to experience the ancient culture of Son islet following 3N criteria: listen, grasp, taste.
