Date: 13/06/2023

On June 6, the Mekong Delta Tourism Association celebrated its 15th anniversary with the presence of former leaders of the Southwest Steering Committee, former leaders of Can Tho City, and leaders of the Vietnam Tourism Association.
15ᵗʰ founding anniversary of Mekong Delta Tourism Association

Mekong Delta Tourism Association was established on 6/6/2008. After 15 years of construction and development, despite the difficulties in organizational structure and funding, this unit has made very positive contributions contribute to the development of tourism in the whole region.

Specifically, Mekong Delta Tourism Association has actively promoted cooperation and linkages in tourism development between localities in the region and the whole country; organized conferences to stimulate tourism demand, coordinated to develop specific tourism products and typical tourist attractions; organized promotional activities for domestic and foreign tourism; acted as a bridge between members and state management agencies to promptly handle legitimate recommendations and proposals of tourism enterprises.

By the end of 2022, the Mekong Delta was estimated to have welcomed over 44 million tourists, and the tourism revenue of the Mekong Delta reached nearly 34 trillion VND. Compared to 2008, the number of visitors in 2022 increased by more than 30 million, and the revenue from tourism increased by more than 30 trillion billion VND. The Mekong Delta currently has 53 typical tourist attractions, an increase of 44 sites compared to 15 years ago. This is considered an important premise to attract tourists to the Mekong Delta in recent years.

Mr. Nguyen Thuc Hien, Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee, said that tourism is a general economic sector with interdisciplinary, inter-regional socialization and international integration with profound cultural content. Therefore, tourism development requires cooperation between state agencies, tourism associations, and travel businesses to diversify products, connect tours, and inter-regional routes to promote sustainable tourism development.

Currently, localities in the Mekong Delta focus on building specific tourism products based on promoting favorable conditions and rational exploitation of specific resources. Over the past time, each locality in the region has made efforts to develop specific tourism products, to bring visitors new experiences such as sea-island tourism; eco-tourism; MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions) tourism; cultural tourism (visiting historical - cultural relics); spiritual tourism; community-based tourism...

To achieve these above-mentioned goals, Vice Chairman Nguyen Thuc Hien hoped that the Mekong Delta Tourism Association would continue to support localities and businesses to promote tourism, create new tourism products, and attract more tourists to the Mekong Delta region.
