Can Tho and Lao capital Vientiane strengthen agricultural cooperation

On December 14, Secretary of Can Tho Municipal Party Committee Nguyen Van Hieu; Chairman of Can Tho Municipal People's Council Pham Van Hieu; Chairman of Can Tho Municipal People's Committee Tran Viet Truong hosted a reception for a delegation of Lao capital Vientiane led by Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the People’s Council of Vientiane Anouphap Tounalom. At the meeting, leaders of Can Tho and the Lao capital Vientiane agreed to strengthen the localities’ agricultural cooperation.
Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the People’s Council of Vientiane Anouphap Tounalom presented a gift to leaders of Can Tho City.

At the meeting, Secretary of the Can Tho Municipal Party Committee Nguyen Van Hieu introduced the potential, strengths, and achievements of Can Tho's agriculture and discussed many issues related to the city's agricultural production activities. He stated that Vietnam has approved a strategy for sustainable agricultural and rural development, and the Vietnamese Government is implementing a program to develop one million hectares of high-tech agriculture, ensuring that farmers' income increases by at least 30% compared to the traditional model. Research and technology transfer activities in the field are being vigorously promoted, especially in the Mekong Delta.

Secretary of Can Tho Municipal Party Committee Nguyen Van Hieu stated that Can Tho will continue to assist Vientiane in connecting with experts and scientists in Can Tho City for agricultural development purposes.

Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the People’s Council of Vientiane Anouphap Tounalom expressed his gratitude to the leaders of Can Tho City for their warm welcome and said that he was impressed by Can Tho City's strong development. The official expressed his hope that initiatives and policies aimed at serving both sides' comprehensive cooperation would be implemented more extensively, with a particular focus on the development of the farming sector.

Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the People’s Council of Vientiane Anouphap Tounalom also proposed Can Tho City increase scholarships for Lao students to study agriculture at Can Tho University and other local institutions with strengths in farming.

On this occasion, the delegation from the Lao capital Vientiane visited several agricultural institutions, schools, and businesses in the city of Can Tho.
