In 2023, Can Tho City received approximately 5.99 million visitors, an increase of 17% over the same period in 2022. Out of this, foreign visitors accounted for roughly 159,000. The total revenue generated from tourism in the city was 5,420 billion VND, an increase of 32% compared to the same period in 2022.​

In 2023, Can Tho City underwent significant changes in promoting tourism, connecting with many international markets, and cooperating with other provinces and cities. Investments were poured into human resource training. Many new models of tourism have been formed. Additionally, several typical tourism product projects have been developed. However, Can Tho tourism still faces many challenges and limitations. While tourism products have improved in quality, they have not yet become competitive enough. The capacity of flight routes at Can Tho International Airport is still limited, and tourism human resources have not yet met the requirements of international integration. The implementation of programs and projects is also still too slow.

Therefore, the Steering Committee for Tourism Development of Can Tho City sets several goals and seven solutions for 2024. Specifically, Can Tho eyes on welcoming 6.1 million visitors with 3.1 million stays. The total revenue from tourism is expected to reach about 6,000 billion VND.

Speaking at the conference, Mr. Nguyen Thuc Hien, Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee and Head of the Steering Committee for Tourism Development of Can Tho City, emphasized the need to develop suitable types of tourism and products. With the city's potential and development goals, investment is needed to promote the night-time economy alongside tourism. A specific tourist route and typical tourism products are set to be launched by 2024. It is vital to mobilize resources to support the development of tourism. The tourism sector of Can Tho City should also strengthen links and cooperation with key tourism localities, build inter-regional tourism routes, diversify destinations, and create value chain connections in tourism products. The tourism sector should also embrace digital transformation and strengthen human resource training.
