The purpose of this gathering was to retrospectively rekindle the heroic spirit of the revolutionary struggle, highlighting the historical milestones of the nation. Mr. Tran Viet Truong, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the City People's Committee, delivered a speech that revisited the tradition of the 78-year commemoration of the August Revolution and the National Day on September 2nd.

Speaking at the gathering, Mr. Tran Viet Truong, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the City People's Committee, emphasized that the year 2023 holds tremendous significance, marking the 20-year journey of construction and development for Can Tho City under the central government. Building upon the patriotic and unwavering spirit of the homeland, positioned at the heart of the Mekong Delta with abundant potential, advantages, and the cultural essence of the river region, Can Tho City has been provided with favorable conditions to advance its economy, enhance transportation connectivity, and engage in international integration. Step by step, it has asserted its pivotal role in the region, particularly in trade, services, tourism, healthcare, education, and social welfare assurance… In the first 8 months of the year, the socio-economic landscape continued to undergo positive transformations. The investment and business environment improved, positioning Can Tho City at the top rank of digital transformation nationwide. The utilization of information technology, administrative reform efforts, international cooperation, and regional linkages were all greatly intensified.

Especially noteworthy is the fact that political security, order, and social safety have been consistently ensured, creating a secure living environment for citizens and providing a sense of confidence for investors to engage in production. Efforts in Party building, governance establishment, and mobilizing the populace to partake in patriotic movements have led to significant and robust changes. The political system has been strengthened, operating with increasing efficiency. Officials, civil servants, and Party members maintain trust in the Party's direction, the state's policies, and laws, while the people's confidence continues to solidify, contributing significantly to the stability, protection, and development of the city.

By vigorously upholding the spirit of proactivity, self-reliance, and self-strengthening, the Chairman of the City People's Committee affirmed that in the coming period, the Party, Government, people, and armed forces of Can Tho City will continue to deploy and execute in a synchronized manner the tasks of economic, cultural, and social development, national defense and security, Party construction, and political system development according to the spirit of Resolution No. 59-NQ/TW of the Party Central Committee on building and developing Can Tho City until 2030, with a vision towards 2045, and aiming for the celebration of the city's 20 years under the central government.

In specific terms, the city is calling for and harnessing all available resources, potential, and advantages to strive for the construction and development of Can Tho into a central city of the region—a city that is ecologically conscious, civilized, modern, deeply imbued with the cultural essence of the Mekong Delta, contributing actively and even more significantly to the nation's collective achievements. Concurrently, the city's authorities will focus on leading and directing the organization of the commemorative event for the 20th anniversary of Can Tho City's establishment under the central government. Accordingly, localities, agencies, and units will formulate practical activity plans closely aligned with the practical situation, aiming toward the commemoration. This includes launching competitive movements, undertaking projects, and tasks to celebrate the anniversary; hosting workshops and praising exemplary models; organizing cultural and artistic activities, exhibitions, sports events, and tourism initiatives; issuing commemorative publications and local Party history records; highlighting the history of the local party, units, and sectors. These efforts should be tailored to the specific realities of each locality and unit, ensuring seriousness, practicality, safety, cost-effectiveness, and alignment with the traditions and cultural essence, customs, and positive habits of the people, while catering to the needs of the populace. Attention will also be directed towards urban embellishment, landscape preservation, environmental hygiene, orderly rural transportation, maintaining clean, green, attractive streets, and cultivating a vibrant and cheerful atmosphere throughout the city.

Advancing in science and technology, implementing a comprehensive framework of mechanisms, policies, and solutions to enhance the quality and efficient utilization of human resources while promoting innovation and creativity; bolstering the application of scientific and technological achievements in economic and social management, environmental protection, and climate change adaptation; innovating growth models; establishing and effectively operating electronic governance, smart cities, digital societies, and green economies...

The Chairman of the City People's Committee affirmed the determination to strengthen Party building and the construction of a clean and robust political system; harnessing the roles and responsibilities of each Party level, Party organization, agency, and unit in institutionalizing and concretizing the comprehensive development directive for the city. This is especially relevant concerning specific mechanisms and policies for Can Tho City's development, ensuring coherence and alignment with the city's practical circumstances. The aspiration is that each locality and unit within the city will contribute substantive projects and efforts to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Can Tho City's establishment under the central government. Unwavering efforts will be devoted to strengthening national defense and security capabilities, in close conjunction with socio-economic development, ensuring the security and defense of the city, and constructing a resilient defense zone. The Chairman of the City People's Committee expressed confidence that the Party, government, and people of Can Tho City will stand united with high spirits of self-reliance and self-strengthening, overcoming all challenges and difficulties, to develop a more cultured and prosperous Can Tho City.

On this occasion, the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee also organized the presentation of Party badges to 3 esteemed elder Party members. Specifically, the 55-year Party badge was bestowed upon Mr. Le Hung Truc, Major General, former member standing committee of the City Party Committee, former Director of the Public security of Can Tho province. The 50-year Party badge was awarded to Mr. Ha Nghia Lo, Lieutenant General, former member standing committee of the City Party Committee, former Director of the Public security of Can Tho City. And the 45-year Party badge was conferred upon Mr. Tran Thanh Lap, former Provincial Party Committee member, former Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Hau Giang Province.
