At the reception, Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu, Secretary of Can Tho City Party Committee, expressed his pleasure to welcome the Secretary General of the Central Union of Cuban Workers Ulises Guilarte de Nacimiento, and highly appreciated the close relationship between Vietnam and Cuba as reflected through high-level visits by leaders of the two countries over the past time.
Secretary of Can Tho City Party Committee Nguyen Van Hieu also briefed the potential and strengths of Can Tho City as the hub of the Mekong Delta. Despite being the rice granary of southern Vietnam, Can Tho City still faces many difficulties in improving the people’s income and quality of life. Therefore, the city’s economy continues to shift toward a desired pattern in the order of trade, service, industry, and agriculture. Specifically, the city will build more industrial parks and attract a large, skilled workforce. As a result, this plan will lead to the birth of many unions in both state-owned enterprises and the private sector.
Secretary of Can Tho City Party Committee Nguyen Van Hieu hopes that this visit will tighten the relationship between the trade unions on both sides and support the establishment of trade unions in the private sector.
