SSTP introduced six sets of criteria and indicators for sustainable tourism and applied them to six small and medium-sized business models in tourism, targeting six objects: hotel, tour operator, eco-lodge, community-based tourism, homestay, and tourist attractions. SSTP's approach to sustainable tourism criteria and indicators is to do small things, such as save energy and water, reduce waste, and care about workers... thereby contributing to environmental protection and sustainably strengthening the local economy.

Mr. Tran Yen Vinh, Director of Muong Thanh Can Tho Hotel, said: “At Muong Thanh Hotel, we always have an environment-oriented program, notably two annual programs, namely “Do Green”, and “No Plastic For Green Life”. Therefore, we are very interested in SSTP's introduction of green tourism criteria in Can Tho. This is something we have done regularly over the years, and we believe that the certified criteria will bring more benefits to businesses and visitors.” Meanwhile, Ms. Le Dinh Minh Thy, Director of Vietravel Can Tho, shared her opinions with us: “In fact, our business is very interested in green and sustainable development criteria and indicators. Currently, customers also tend to pay attention to this issue a lot. In the past time, we have consulted the criteria of green and sustainable tourism in Quang Nam for implementation. With five green criteria for tourism, we have all implemented and met the standards. However, local management units also need to survey and evaluate the appropriate accreditation. The recognition of green criteria in tourism activities will give businesses more motivation for sustainable development and spread a new face of green tourism in Can Tho”.

Ms. Vo Xuan Thu, Director of Victoria Can Tho Hotel, said: “We always care about the environment. Therefore, our hotel has not used plastic for many years. We use solar energy systems instead to save money, save energy and reduce harmful effects on the environment. Every year, we have many action plans for the environment, such as picking up waste in the river, turning off the lights in response to Earth Day, etc. In fact, in Can Tho city, not only Victoria Hotel, but many other accommodation points also aim for green and sustainable tourism. Therefore, I also suggest that the tourism sector of Can Tho city should have a kind of recognition and evaluation of a green accommodation or a green destination, thus creating an effect on the green tourism brand, creating a unique feature for Can Tho tourism.”

In Can Tho city, many businesses and tourist attractions have focused on green criteria in tourism activities, such as Azerai Resort, Can Tho Ecolodge, Victoria Resort, Muong Thanh Hotel, Mekong Silt Ecolodge, Bamboo Eco Village, Hieu's Cottage, etc. As for the tourism community of Son islet, they are also implementing many projects and plans on preserving and protecting the environment. Therefore, if Can Tho soon apply and put this set of criteria into practice, it will create a green tourism system, contributing to bringing a new face to Can Tho tourism in a safe and friendly direction.
