Accommodation businesses served over 2 million visitors, up 20% over the same period last year, fulfilling 77% of the yearly target. Total revenue from tourism reached over 4,120 billion VND, up 49% year-on-year, reaching 90% of the year’s target. These are positive signs for Can Tho tourism as it has bounced back stronger after the COVID-19 pandemic.
The tourism sector of the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho is aiming to serve 5.2 million visitors for nearly 4.6 trillion VND (194.38 million USD) this year. Can Tho authorities believe that the tourism sector can soon achieve the set targets, especially at the peak tourist season from mid-December to the end of March.
Starting August 15, Vietnam will extend the validity of tourist's e-visas to 90 from 30 days, with multiple entries, and triple the duration of visa-free stays for visitors from certain countries to 45 days. The adjustment of the visa policy will create favorable conditions for travelers to stay longer in Vietnam, thus giving a boost to the domestic tourism industry after the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mr. Nguyen Hoang On, Director of Can Tho Tourism Development Center, said: “To attract more tourists, we focus on building and improving the quality of tourism products and services suitable for key domestic and international markets that Can Tho is aiming for. In addition, we also better our marketing strategies and strengthen promotion through national and international tourism events. In particular, we pay more attention to applying information technology and perfecting the smart tourism system to introduce images and typical tourism products of Can Tho City more effectively.”
Until the end of 2023, Can Tho will organize several events to promote tourism, including Phong Dien Ecotourism Festival (from September 24 to 27), numerous activities mark the 20th anniversary of Can Tho becoming central-level city, Vietnam International Travel Mart 2023 in Can Tho (expected to be open in December), etc.
Can Tho City will participate in the International Travel Expo Ho Chi Minh City 2023 (ITE HCMC 2023) in September; organize conferences to promote Can Tho tourism in the Central Highlands and Northwest Vietnam, etc.
Can Tho authorities focus on applying digital transformation to promote tourism. Specifically, famous tourist destinations and tourism product services will be presented on Can Tho tourism portals, mobile applications, and social networks.
