Under the MoU, the Can Tho chapter of Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO), Germany's Friedrich Naumann Foundation (FNF), and the Can Tho University on cooperation will work together in programs and projects on people diplomacy in combination with education, implementing a project to promote sustainable urban development and environmental protection, organizing conferences to discuss issues related to environment, climate change and international economy. Furthermore, the parties will also conduct research and exchange research results on enhancing the capacity of businesses in the Mekong Delta.

According to Ms. Le Thi Thanh Giang, Chairwoman of the Can Tho chapter of Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO), the cooperation contents between the three parties will help strengthen the friendship between people of Can Tho and Germany, while fostering connections between the business communities of both sides. She hopes that the deal will help encourage more German non-governmental organizations to conduct social welfare projects in the city, helping the locality speed up poverty reduction as well as promoting sustainable urban development and environmental protection in Can Tho city

Speaking at the meeting, Prof. Dr. Andreas Stoffers, Country Director of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation Institute (FNF) in Vietnam said that the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation in many areas between the Can Tho Union of Friendship Organizations, the Friedrich Naumann Foundation Institute (FNF) in Vietnam and Can Tho University will unite the parties for stronger sustainable development of Can Tho and the Mekong Delta region as a whole. He expressed his belief that the partnership will contribute to promoting the economic recovery and repositioning of Vietnam in the post-pandemic period.

Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Ha Thanh Toan - Rector of Can Tho University, said that this Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) shows the determination of the parties in coordinating the implementation of meaningful programs and projects which will contribute directly to the overall development of the community.

Addressing the signing ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Trung Nhan, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Can Tho city, highly appreciated the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation in many areas between the Can Tho Union of Friendship Organizations, the Friedrich Naumann Foundation Institute (FNF) in Vietnam and Can Tho University. The deal will open up new opportunities for the city to strengthen people-to-people diplomacy and expand partnership in science, technology, and business. He also said that activities implemented within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will help the city adapt to and mitigate the impacts of climate changes, and provide an opportunity for businesses in Can Tho city and Germany to strengthen trade connections and cooperation.

Through this Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), Mr. Nguyen Trung Nhan, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Can Tho city, hopes Can Tho University will continue to cooperate with the Can Tho Union of Friendship Organizations, the Friedrich Naumann Foundation Institute (FNF) in Vietnam in promoting scientific research and trade activities between Can Tho city and foreign partners. This will bring practical effects, contributing to promoting the friendship between the countries, as well as boost people-to-people diplomacy, cooperation, and exchange activities as well as investment promotion in Can Tho city.
