In 2023, Can Tho city had 69 scientific and technological organizations, including 14 universities and colleges, 13 research and development organizations, 13 scientific and technological service organizations, 12 scientific and technological enterprises, and 17 agencies and units with a staff of over 6,000 people (including 29 professors, 233 associate professors, over 3,000 doctors and masters) focusing on fields such as medical science (30.4%), engineering and technology (20%), social sciences (15.2%), agriculture (10.5%), and natural sciences (6%).

During the meeting, the scientists and intellectuals expressed their excitement at the city leadership's attention. They also shared their achievements, and the delegates contributed practical opinions on scientific research issues and practical applications. Collaboration between academic institutions, agencies, and units to contribute to the city's development.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Tran Viet Truong, Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City, extended his wishes for good health and congratulations for the new year. He acknowledged the role of the scientific and intellectual community in the city's overall development and construction.

"Being at the forefront of researching, summarizing theories and practices to provide objective, persuasive, practical, feasible, and reliable scientific arguments; leading in research, innovation, application, development, and technology transfer to enhance the efficiency and productivity of economic sectors; implementing education, training, and nurturing high-quality human resources for future generations with professional expertise, knowledge, and skills to better meet the requirements of innovation and international integration," emphasized the Chairman.

The year 2024 has been identified as a year of "acceleration and breakthrough" in implementing the goals of the 5-year Socio-Economic Development Plan 2021-2025. Therefore, the Chairman hopes that scientists and intellectuals will continue to contribute and propose ideas to make Can Tho city the center of the Mekong Delta region in accordance with the spirit of Resolution No. 59-NQ/TW of the Politburo on the construction and development of Can Tho city by 2030, with a vision to 2045.

On this occasion, the People's Committee of Can Tho City awarded Certificates of Merit to 5 groups, including the heads of scientific and technological topics that were rated excellent in 2023, and honored 15 exemplary scientists and intellectuals of 2023.
