Can Tho Online Tourism Fair Opens

On the afternoon of January 22nd, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Can Tho city cooperated with the Can Tho Tourism Development Center to hold the opening ceremony of the Can Tho Online Tourism Fair themed “Joining hands to restore the tourism sector. Can Tho - A safe and attractive destination”. Participants of the opening ceremony were Mr. Duong Tan Hien - Standing Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho city and leaders of departments and businesses in the field of tourism.

Can Tho Online Tourism Fair take place from January 22nd to February 10th, 2022. This event aims at promoting digital transformation of the tourism sector, diversifying advertising methods, and gradually restoring tourism activities post COVID-19 pandemic. This is also an opportunity for businesses to find partners, and connect travel routes between destinations. Furthermore, Can Tho Online Tourism Fair contributes to introducing and promoting the image of Can Tho city; effectively exploiting target markets and expanding potential markets; attracting tourists to Can Tho city; increasing visitors’ spending and length of stay; supporting businesses to promote attractive tourism products and services of Can Tho City to tour operators and tourists.

There are about 70 stalls at the online market, 25 of which come from provinces and cities across the country. There are many interesting activities at the online fair such as an exhibition space, online booths - where participants can post logos, information, publications, images, video clips regarding introductory and tourism promotion. Moreover, this event is also an opportunity for businesses to exchange information concerning trade promotion and cooperation (accommodation, transportation, travel routes, etc.). In addition, there are also a series of sideline activities and events such as the 2nd “Beautiful photo about Can Tho tourism” contest - 2021, “Sắc xuân miệt vườn” (The beauty of Spring in the garden), giving gifts to the small traders in Cai Rang floating market, Nham Dan Spring Flower Garden in Can Tho - 2022 and so on.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Duong Tan Hien, Standing Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho city, acknowledged the efforts of the tourism sector over the past year as well as the efforts of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Can Tho city and localities and businesses that have coordinated to organize the event. Through this event, Standing Vice Chairman Duong Tan Hien suggested that relevant departments and localities should actively work together to create the best conditions for businesses in terms of policies to reduce costs, promote communication and create connections between the city government and businesses, between businesses and businesses and between businesses and tourists. Besides, Mr. Duong Tan Hien also wants businesses to pay more attention to investing in quality programs and tours, building more diversified products and services as well as strengthening the application of information technology. In addition, there should be appropriate forms of promotion and tourism stimulus packages. The seminar is one of the activities within the framework of the Can Tho Online Tourism Fair.

At the seminar, scientists, management agencies, and businesses discussed the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the tourism industry of Can Tho city and several solutions for safe adaptation to the COVID-19 pandemic. Specifically, experts and participants assessed the current situation of Can Tho tourism during the COVID-19 pandemic and analyzed the difficulties that tourism businesses and stakeholders face in the process of supporting and restoring local tourism. At the same time, they analyzed and evaluated the resilience of the tourism sector of Can Tho city, then proposed policies to respond to the pandemic as well as specific solutions to recover Can Tho tourism in a new normal state.
