Can Tho opens a photography exhibition to commemorate the city's 20th anniversary under the Central Government

On December 19, at Can Tho City Museum, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Can Tho City Can Tho City Museum organized a photo exhibition themed “Can Tho City - 20 years of construction and development”, a thematic display named “Tet customs of ethnic groups in the Mekong Delta” and a large-sized model “Map of Can Tho City - 20 years of construction, development and integration”. This is one of a series of activities to celebrate Can Tho City's 20th anniversary under the Central Government.

On November 26, 2003, the 11th National Assembly (XI) issued Resolution No. 22 on dividing and adjusting the administrative boundaries of several provinces. The resolution divided Can Tho Province into Can Tho City under the Central Government and Hau Giang Province. Accordingly, from January 1, 2004, Can Tho officially became a centrally run city.

Over the past 20 years, the government and people of Can Tho have continuously strived to develop the city into the hub of the Mekong Delta. Many economic, cultural, and social infrastructure projects have been invested in and built such as Can Tho International Airport, Cai Cui Port, Can Tho Bridge, Temple of Hung Kings, Korea-Vietnam Incubator Park, Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park, universities hospitals, commercial centers, etc.

Can Tho City’s leaders visit the Photo exhibition introducing the 20 years of Can Tho City’s construction and development.

Photo gallery with the theme “Can Tho City - 20 years of construction and development” includes 78 photo documents, introducing the city's achievements in terms of economy, culture, society, and national security and defense during the last 20 years of the city's construction and development. The works of art aim to affirm and pride Can Tho City as a center of industry, commerce, culture, science..., contributing to promoting the development of the Mekong Delta and the whole country. The event will last until January 12, 2024.

A space displaying special dishes of the Kinh, Khmer, Chinese, and Cham ethnic groups on Tet holiday.

On the same day, Can Tho City Museum cooperated with An Giang Provincial Museum to organize a thematic exhibition named “Tet Customs of ethnic groups in the Mekong Delta”. The thematic exhibition has over 200 images, documents, and artifacts introducing Tet customs and traditions of 4 ethnic groups comprising Kinh, Khmer, Chinese, and Cham. The event aims to preserve cultural heritage values and educate the Vietnamese young generation to love their homeland and be proud of their rich culture.

Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Can Tho City Nguyen Minh Tuan said that ethnic groups comprising Vietnamese, Chinese, Khmer, and Cham come to the Mekong Delta to live and bring the traditional customs of ethnic groups of the Mekong Delta region during the Lunar New Year.

The thematic exhibition is open to visitors at Can Tho Museum from December 19, 2023, to April 1, 2024.

Meanwhile, the large-sized model “Map of Can Tho City - 20 years of construction, development and integration” is co-edited by Major General Vu Cao Quan, former Commander of the Military Command of Can Tho City, member of the Board of Directors of Can Tho Hoa Hao Medic General Hospital and several agencies. The rice-made map was painted colorfully to register to set a Vietnam Record. The model exhibition is open to visitors at Can Tho Museum from December 19, 2023, to December 20, 2023. After that, it will be displayed at Can Tho Stadium from December 30, 2023, to January 1, 2024, to celebrate Can Tho City's 20th anniversary under the Central Government.
