Can Tho promotes trade cooperation with Chinese enterprises

On the afternoon of September 5, Mr. Nguyen Van Hong, Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee, met and worked with a delegation of the Chinese Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City, led by its Consul General Wei Huaxiang to enhance connectivity between the Mekong Delta locality and Chinese businesses in logistics, agricultural processing, and other sectors.

Mr. Nguyen Van Hong, Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee, was delighted to welcome the Chinese Consul General in HCM City Wei Huaxiang, and Chinese businesses to the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho. Under the motto of “Friendly neighbors, Comprehensive cooperation, Long-term stability, Looking to the future”, Vice Chairman Nguyen Van Hong highlighted the positive developments in the Vietnam-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, particularly in economic and trade cooperation, as well as exchanges between their citizens and localities.

Vice Chairman Nguyen Van Hong introduced Can Tho City’s strengths and potential and said that the rapid development of local socio-economic infrastructure in recent years has support from the central government to turn Can Tho City into a new growth driver of the country.

With diverse natural resources, Can Tho boasts substantial potential and advantages in agriculture, industry, tourism, trade and international cooperation, he added.

Recently, China’s Guangdong import-export Association and several big companies from Guangdong have visited Can Tho City and shown their interest in some projects that the city is calling for investment. Therefore, Vice Chairman Nguyen Van Hong expressed his hope that the Consulate General would continue introducing Can Tho to Chinese investors to promote cooperation and investment in Can Tho City.

On this occasion, Vice Chairman Nguyen Van Hong invited the Chinese Consulate General and Chinese business associations and enterprises to attend the “Can Tho City - 20 years of achievements and development” exhibition, the 23rd Vietnam International Agricultural Trade Fair, and a trade conference slated for November 2-6 in Can Tho as honorary guests. Vice Chairman Nguyen Van Hong hoped to promote friendship, economic cooperation, and cultural exchange between Can Tho City and Chinese enterprises and localities.

At the reception, Chinese Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City Wei Huaxiang, highly appreciated the potential and development of Can Tho City as the hub of the Mekong Delta. He expressed his confidence in the cooperation and trade connectivity between the Mekong Delta locality and Chinese businesses. He also thanked Can Tho City's leaders for creating favorable conditions for Chinese businesses in the locality.

For his part, Chinese Consul General in HCM City Wei Huaxiang committed to helping Can Tho step up collaboration in culture, sports, tourism, and trade with Chinese partners.

According to the municipal Department of Foreign Affairs, Can Tho is now home to 17 Chinese projects with a total registered capital of 111.79 million USD.

Last year, the accumulated trade revenue between Can Tho City and Chinese partners stood at about 320 million USD.
