Can Tho City currently has 11 science and technology enterprises that operate in fields such as science, technology, agriculture, information technology, and construction. However, most of these businesses are small, medium, or micro-enterprises, which means their science, technology, and innovation potential is weak.

Due to a lack of resources, many businesses struggle to manage and carry out R&D tasks. Additionally, they are often not interested in establishing intellectual property rights to be granted protection titles for their inventions, patents, or other useful solutions. As a result, competent authorities have not evaluated, appraised, or recognized these businesses in writing, rendering them ineligible for a science and technology enterprise certificate.

Moreover, science and technology enterprises face challenges in accessing the State's support policies, especially in terms of credit capital and credit support with preferential interest rates.

During the meeting, science and technology firms in Can Tho City put forward proposals for loan support and land fund to aid their development.

Vice Chairman Nguyen Ngoc He stated that Can Tho City has recently issued policies for the science and technology field. These policies include preferential land and tax policies for businesses investing in the concentrated high-tech park and the Center for production, processing, and consumption of agricultural products in the Mekong Delta. In terms of land funds for science and technology enterprises, Can Tho City will provide specific instructions and solutions for each enterprise according to the Land Law. Furthermore, Can Tho City will make efforts to support science and technology firms in a timely and prompt manner within the scope of law.

Vice Chairman Nguyen Ngoc He also said that Can Tho authorities will present recommendations and proposals from various science and technology firms to the Central Government, in the hopes of finding solutions and creating policies that will benefit these companies. Can Tho City People's Committee will also conduct research and submit proposals to Can Tho City People's Council to establish appropriate mechanisms and policies for the locality.

At the meeting

On this occasion, the Department of Science and Technology of Can Tho City awarded the Science and Technology Enterprise Certificates to four businesses namely TGO SOFTWARE Co., Ltd., Mekong Clean Sand Technology Joint Stock Company, IIT Joint Stock Company, and KATEC Technology Joint Stock Company. It was also suggested that the 1st Can Tho Science and Technology Award be held in 2024 and be open for consideration.
