At the meeting, the two sides discussed cooperation and support in building a transfer station to transfer domestic waste to a waste treatment plant. These transfer stations are in the city’s planning (the average capacity of these stations is expected to be about 20-25 tons/day and about 5-10 tons/day for the small ones).
Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Thuc Hien, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho city, said that Can Tho has to process over 600 tons of waste every day and has signed contracts for waste collection in districts. In the coming time, Can Tho city will invest in transfer stations to move the waste to the treatment site to ensure the environment. This project will receive investment capital from the state budget or other lawful mobilized sources. Therefore, Vice-Chairman Nguyen Thuc Hien hopes that businesses in Hiroshima prefecture with advanced technology will support the city to build these waste transfer stations. Vice-Chairman Nguyen Thuc Hien assigned the Department of Natural Resources and Environment to coordinate with the Departments of Science and Technology, the Department of Construction, the Department of Planning and Investment to advise the municipal People's Committee on a procedure for investment in waste transfer stations both ensure environmental factors and well serve the needs of people in each district.
Besides, Vice Chairman Nguyen Thuc Hien also hopes the Japanese side will support the city in wastewater treatment for aquaculture, surface water treatment, and sludge management in pangasius farming, upgrading of environmental monitoring station for aquaculture; application of circular technology in rice production; management of riverbank erosion.
