Can Tho City features nearly 80% of its area designated as agricultural land, encompassing around 78,000 hectares of rice cultivation, with an annual output exceeding 1.3 million tons. Over 90% of this output comprises high-quality and specialty aromatic rice varieties. Currently, there are 37 enterprises engaged in rice export operations. In 2023, rice exports from Can Tho reached nearly 1 million tons, which is expected to continue growing in 2024.
Compared to other regions, Can Tho City boasts significant advantages in its waterway, road, and air transport systems, facilitating excellent connectivity both regionally and nationally, thereby enabling international trade. However, integrating high technology into the city's agricultural production remains challenging. Most farming and aquatic exports are still in raw material form, and the processing industry and post-harvest preservation technology are limited. Additionally, logistics services for agricultural trade and export have not fulfilled the development needs of the Mekong Delta region.
During the working session with the SunRice Group, Mr. Pham Van Hieu stated that in April 2024, the General Director of SunRice Group visited Can Tho City to explore its investment environment. This visit and subsequent discussions aim to foster future cooperation between Can Tho and the SunRice Group.
Currently, Can Tho City prioritizes investments in seven high-tech agricultural zones covering approximately 1,665 hectares. Additionally, the city is developing a logistics center for the linkage, production, processing, and consumption of agricultural products in the Mekong Delta. This center will offer unique benefits for investors, including long-term tax and fee exemptions. The city hopes that SunRice Group will be interested in researching these projects.
Mr. Pham Van Hieu expresses hope that, in the near future, the SunRice Group will support market connections to develop the agricultural product chain in the Mekong Delta and Can Tho City. This effort will involve linking local raw material areas with the center for the linkage, production, processing, and consumption of agricultural products in the Mekong Delta once it becomes operational. The goal is to strengthen the cooperative and trade relationships between Can Tho City and corporations and investors from Australia.

On this occasion, the delegation from Can Tho City visited the distribution and retail system of SunRice Group. They learned about the Group's operational processes and how it supplies products to the market. The delegation exchanged insights and gathered experiences regarding advanced management models used by SunRice, aiming to apply these lessons to develop agricultural product chains in Can Tho City and the Mekong Delta region.
