Speaking at the meeting, Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City Tran Viet Truong said that in January 2024, the socio-economic situation of the city achieved many positive results in a comprehensive and balanced manner across many fields.

Specifically, the industrial production index is estimated to increase by 0.17% compared to the previous month and is estimated to increase by 21.21% compared to the same period last year. Total retail sales of goods and services are estimated at VND 10,938.55 trillion, up 4.57% compared to the previous month and up 10.26% compared to the same period last year. Determining that 2024 is a year that needs a breakthrough to complete the socio-economic development plan for the 2020-2025 period set out by the 14th Party Congress of Can Tho City.

On that basis, the Chairman of the People's Committee requested that all levels, sectors, and each official, party member, especially heads of agencies and units, localities raise the spirit of responsibility, strengthen the implementation of the City's 2024 Socio-Economic Development Plan; 2024 theme implementation plan; Implementation plan for resolutions of the National Assembly, Government, City Party Committee and People's Council on key tasks and solutions for implementing the 2024 socio-economic development plan and state budget estimates. Accelerate restructuring the economy in an integrated manner, and promote economic growth in each industry and field while improving quality, competitiveness, and labor productivity from the beginning of the year.

Focus on cutting, and simplifying administrative procedures, business conditions that are unnecessary, and illogical, increase costs for people and businesses; improve the investment environment, and enhance provincial competitiveness and department competitiveness. Continue effective implementation of Decision No. 1605/QD-UBND dated July 12, 2023, of the People's Committee on establishing a special working group on investment promotion and resolving difficulties and obstacles to support businesses, investors, and investment projects in the city. The Chairman of the People's Committee also requested thorough preparations for people to welcome the Lunar New Year of the Dragon 2024 in a festive, healthy, and safe spirit with thrift, ensuring that every home and every person can happily welcome spring and celebrate Tet. He requested ensuring sufficient transportation means and convenient, safe travel for people, avoiding traffic jams and passenger stagnation at bus stations, docks, and airports. He also requested to ensure a stable supply of electricity, water, and telecommunications to serve people's needs during Tet.

At the same time, implement good management of the market, stabilize prices, balance supply and demand of goods and services, ensure fuel supply and essential commodities to meet people's consumption needs during Tet; timely detect and strictly handle according to law acts of commercial fraud, illegal transportation, storage of prohibited goods, smuggled goods, goods of unclear origin, fake, substandard goods, intellectual property infringing goods, hoarding...
