Visitors prefer to travel somewhere near, easy to arrange time and experience new tourism products. Most tourism businesses expect that this year's tourism will soon recover when the number of tourists buying tours and booking hotels during the Lunar New Year has increased considerably.

In general, tourist areas and attractions strictly abide by COVID-19 prevention and control measures such as arranging disinfectants, asking visitors to wear masks, keeping distance. Moreover, they also actively develop plans and organize activities to serve tourists.

Travel businesses have completed and sold domestic tours to tourists during the Lunar New Year. Tourist destinations are associated with fresh nature and offer visitors many experiences imbued with cultural identity. Moreover, they also meet the criteria of COVID-19 pandemic prevention and control.  As a result, travel agencies have catered to a wide range of tourist market segments that are the hallmarks of tour programs during this year's Tet holiday.

Several large travel companies such as Vietravel, Saigontourist, Fiditour... recorded a lot of positive information when the number of customers ordering tours is increasing. The main source of tourists is mainly from Ho Chi Minh City as they are more confident and optimistic about pandemic control, so they decided to go on a trip.

In 2022, Vietnam strives to welcome 65 million tourists (about 5 million international visitors and 60 million domestic tourists), equal to 150% of the figure in 2021; total revenue from tourists will be 400,000 billion VND.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has just sent a report to the Prime Minister proposing that from March 31st, 2022, to fully welcome international tourists to Vietnam (inbound) and allow visitors to travel abroad (outbound) through all international border gates.

According to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, this is the right time to open the door to attract international tourists because it is expected that by March 2022, Vietnam will complete the campaign to administer third doses against COVID-19, ensuring community immunity. If the implementation is slower than the above time, Vietnam will reduce its attractiveness in the eyes of international tourists in the context that many countries in the region are also preparing to issue a plan to reopen and restore international tourism.

Besides, from now until the expected opening time is enough time for relevant ministries and branches to adjust regulations and issue implementation guidelines according to functions. At the same time, tourism businesses promptly complete and implement communication, promotion, and advertising plans, market connections and prepare to welcome international tourists on peak seasons.

In particular, May 2022 is the time when Vietnam will host the 2021 Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 31), the early announcement of the opening time to welcome international tourists will contribute to attracting tourists from countries in the ASEAN region, an area that has a relatively high level of vaccination against COVID-19.
