Attending the meeting were Consul General of India in Ho Chi Minh City Madan Mohan Sethi; Consul General of Cambodia in Ho Chi Minh City Chan Sorykan; Deputy Consul General of Japan in Ho Chi Minh City Furudate Seiki; Consul, representative of the Consulate of the Lao People's Democratic Republic in Ho Chi Minh City Vanxay Keovilay; Director of the Korea Center for United Nations Human Rights Policy (KOCUN) in Can Tho city Ahn Eun-Joo; together with leaders of Can Tho city departments, agencies and more than 300 foreigners living, studying and working in Can Tho.

The meeting was held in a warm and friendly atmosphere to acknowledge the contribution made by foreigners towards the socio-economic development of Can Tho City. It was an opportunity to express the concern of city leaders towards the expats studying, working, and living in the city. Additionally, the meeting provided a platform to exchange ideas, share experiences, and introduce the beauty of customs, traditions, culture, history, and people of Vietnam and Can Tho City to international friends.

Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee Nguyen Thuc Hien hopes to receive support from international friends in the city's development.

During the meeting, Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee Nguyen Thuc Hien, expressed his gratitude towards the international guests who attended the event, adding to the lively and friendly atmosphere. He extended his best wishes for a peaceful Christmas, and a better year in 2024 to foreigners studying, working, and living in Can Tho city. He also appreciated the foreign community in Can Tho for their kindness, love, and cooperation.

According to Vice Chairman Nguyen Thuc Hien, with the Vietnamese Government's correct and timely direction and the efforts of local authorities, Can Tho City has achieved and exceeded most of its socio-economic targets by 2023. The total regional product grew by 6.55% compared to 2022, while investment capital increased by 13.02%. Additionally, the total number of visitors to the city reached nearly 6 million, exceeding 15% of the year’s plan, which is an increase of 17% compared to 2022.

Additionally, Can Tho City has been proactively utilizing and promoting the benefits of several policy mechanisms approved by the National Assembly in Resolution No. 45/2022/QH on January 11, 2022. This has enabled the city to leverage its potential and strengths and pave the way for strong development in the future. Vice Chairman Nguyen Thuc Hien emphasized that the positive results achieved in 2023 were due to the contributions of organizations, businesses, and international friends working in Can Tho City. This has helped to build a modern, smart, and civilized Can Tho City.

Over the past year, Can Tho City has successfully organized several noteworthy foreign affairs activities. These activities have contributed significantly to strengthening mutual understanding and promoting cooperation in all fields between Can Tho City and its international partners. Some of these activities include a series of events commemorating the 50th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations, organizing investment promotion activities, attending international conferences in other countries, and signing Memoranda of Understanding on cooperation with several foreign partners. Can Tho City has welcomed 413 delegations comprising nearly 2,300 international visitors for work and travel purposes. These foreign affairs activities have played a significant role in promoting the image and position of Can Tho City in the international arena. As a result, Can Tho has become a well-known and attractive destination, with an increasing number of international visitors coming and staying here.

Representing foreigners working, studying, and living in Can Tho, Director of the Korea Center for United Nations Human Rights Policy (KOCUN) in Can Tho City Ahn Eun-Joo expressed her gratitude to Can Tho City People's Committee for organizing a meaningful New Year party for expats, adding that this event is an opportunity for foreigners in Can Tho to meet, exchange ideas, and share experiences.

Ahn Eun-Joo expressed her joy in living and working with honest, enthusiastic, and sincere people in Can Tho. KOCUN's projects primarily focus on supporting Vietnamese-Korean women who are repatriating, organizing orientation for immigrant brides, and creating a conducive learning and internship environment for volunteers or interns of FPT University. KOCUN's activities are always well-coordinated and supported by the city government.
