The Mekong Delta is considered one of the regions most severely affected in the world by the negative impacts of climate change and sea level rise. Youth here play an important role and have the ability to mobilize involvement from relevant parties in activities toward responding to and mitigating climate change.
The forum provided an opportunity for youth union officials, youth union members, young people, especially young intellectuals working in agencies and units under the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union of Can Tho City Public Agencies’ Bloc, to directly exchange with experts and scientists in the fields of natural resources, land and environment; to access ideas and initiatives of the "Enhancing Youth Resilience to Climate Change Impacts in the Mekong Delta" (abbreviated as Y-Core) Program. This helps young people in Can Tho City take practical actions by advising policies that suit specific issues currently facing Can Tho City in responding to climate change.
At the forum, youth had the opportunity to listen to and exchange with reporters, scientists, and managers about the causes, realities, and solutions for climate change adaptation models in the Mekong Delta, particularly in Can Tho City; key issues with a solution-oriented nature regarding flood resistance, water recycling, and alternative materials to replace the increasingly scarce river sand resources; the position and role of youth in responding to climate change impacts and the responsibilities of youth in the process of reducing greenhouse gas emissions...All models were based on promoting the creative ideas of youth in adapting to climate change linked to today's era of digital transformation.
