The festival, held annually by the Ninh Kieu District People's Committee in collaboration with the Can Tho Municipal Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, has become a significant highlight in the city's tourism. Over its six editions, the festival has played a vital role in promoting the cultural values of the river while supporting local socio-economic development. It also boosts the attractiveness of MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) and river tourism, gradually establishing Can Tho as an outstanding city of rivers.

This year’s festival expanded in scale and quality, featuring vibrant activities rich in riverine identity. The five-day event took place in areas around Cai Khe Canal, Ninh Kieu Wharf, and surrounding locations, extending two days longer than previous editions. Two highlights included the opening ceremony and a light-and-music water show.

Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Anh, Permanent Vice Chairman of Ninh Kieu District People's Committee, shared: "This year’s festival emphasizes riverine culture. The entire stage will be set on the water, and art performances and light displays will center on the river."

To prepare for the water-based activities, the organizing committee and partners utilized three barges of varying sizes (18m x 27m, 12m x 36m, and 8m x 25m) to create a performance and viewing space on the Khai Luong Canal. After serving officials during the opening night, the stage will be accessible for visitors to experience and take photos.

The festival's opening ceremony, which serves as its centerpiece, took place at 7 PM on December 30 and was broadcast live on Can Tho Radio and Television. This carefully choreographed program featured performances themed around the river and stunning lantern displays. The light-and-music show occurred at 8 PM on December 30 and December 31. This creative light spectacle incorporated water mapping, drone lighting, and outstanding performances by well-known singers. The show was divided into four chapters, each illustrating the development journey of Can Tho.

A new feature was introduced this year: a sailboat race held at 7 AM on December 29 at Mini Beach, near Hoang Tu Restaurant. The sight of sailboats gliding across the Hau River created a beautiful, modern riverine landscape, attracting numerous visitors.

The festival featured over 50 lanterns displayed on the river, creatively designed to reflect the socio-economic characteristics of participating units and localities. Additionally, 55 booths showcased tourism promotions, OCOP products, folk cakes, and cuisine in Ninh Kieu Park. These displays highlighted the unique tourism features of each district and city, creating an interactive space for businesses, local tourism operators, and visitors.

Street music performances, flashmobs, kite flying, lantern releases, folk instrument shows, band performances, and traditional Southern folk music enriched the festive atmosphere daily, attracting throngs of visitors.
