Speaking at the meeting, Standing Vice Chairman Duong Tan Hien said that the Mekong Delta is a major agricultural production region and has a huge demand for transportation and logistics infrastructure. The Vietnamese Government is making major investments in expressways, seaports, and logistics infrastructure in the region.
Regarding local relations, Can Tho has established cooperation with Japan’s Hyogo prefecture, Okayama City, and Nasushiobara City, he said, adding that the Vietnam-Japan Friendship Association in Can Tho has also been formed.
Local authorities have opened Japan Desk offices in Can Tho, Tokyo, and Osaka to help Japanese investors remove difficulties while investing in Can Tho, and zoned off 30 hectares of land for the Vietnam-Japan Friendship Industrial Park exclusively for Japanese investors.
Standing Vice Chairman Duong Tan Hien hoped that Can Tho would welcome more Japanese investors to take part in important projects of the city in the future, affirming the locality’s commitment to support and coordinate with Japanese investors so that the two sides can achieve harmonized interests.
Fukuda Yasuhisa, Chairman of Senko Group, said that the group has established several subsidiaries in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, specializing in food, packaging, warehousing, logistics, etc. Moreover, the group wants to build a logistics center with warehouses serving the export of agricultural and aquatic products in the south of Vietnam to expand the group's logistics system to the lower Mekong region and Southeast Asia. Therefore, Chairman Fukuda Yasuhisa wished to explore cooperation opportunities in Can Tho City and provinces in the Mekong Delta region.
