The launching ceremony of taking action for environmental sanitation is an annual important event in Can Tho City, aimed at maintaining environmental sanitation, not littering in public places, planting greenery to create landscapes, cleaning up the environment both inside and outside homes, participating in collecting and treating household waste, cultivating habits of living in an environmentally friendly manner, demonstrating unity and connecting everyone together for the goal of a green, clean, beautiful and safe city.

The launching ceremony is also an opportunity for the youth of Can Tho City to actively contribute and volunteer in fields of socio-economic development through activities such as disseminating to all of the people, especially the program "Youth Join Hands to Build New Rural and Civilized Areas"; contributing to protecting the environment and reducing waste; solving new and difficult issues of the community; traffic safety; repaying gratitude and debts; drinking water remembering the source; and especially environmental protection activities.

The launching ceremony is also an opportunity for the youth of Can Tho City to promote the spirit of environmental protection.

In particular, this year's launching ceremony has a new point: people together change their awareness to prevent and reduce environmental pollution, especially from solid waste; orienting towards environmentally friendly production, contributing to protecting the environment for sustainable national development.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, Mr. Duong Tan Hien, Permanent Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City, called on all levels, sectors, organizations, political-social organizations, production and business establishments and services and all people of Can Tho City to participate in environmental protection activities, reminding everyone to orient towards environmentally friendly living habits, reduce and minimize the use of plastic products and nylon bags as well as abandon the habit of littering waste casually, and raise the sense of collective responsibility to jointly contribute and have concrete and effective actions for nature and the earth.

The Permanent Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City proposed that after the Launching Ceremony, city departments, sectors, organizations, and People's Committees of districts should organize dissemination of the role and importance of environmental protection to all officials, civil servants, youth union members, students and people in the city. Special attention should be paid to reducing solid waste, combating plastic pollution, improving domestic waste sorting at source; applying advanced, environmentally friendly technologies in recycling and waste treatment; remedying and improving environmental pollution situations; strengthening activities to prevent environmental crimes; strongly promoting the mass movement of tree planting of 1 billion trees; conserving biodiversity, restoring and newly planting forests, etc.

For companies, factories, businesses, hospitals, and production, business, and service establishments, Mr. Duong Tan Hien required that they must fully and properly comply with environmental regulations during operations: establish procedures (Environmental Impact Assessment Reports, Environmental Permits, Environmental Registration) for competent approval and confirmation before official operation; and invest in building and operating waste water, emissions, and solid waste treatment facilities that meet national technical standards on the environment before discharge to receiving sources. Implement campaigns against waste and plastic pollution; study and propose solutions and initiatives to reduce waste in production, contributing to environmental protection.

Right after the Launching Ceremony, response activities took place in 9 districts including propaganda car parades in Ninh Kieu district; focusing on environmental sanitation at Ho Bun Xang, Ninh Kieu Quay; implementing the "Flowering Electric Pole Project"; planting 1,000 trees; releasing 350kg of snakehead fish; arranging 1,000 garbage bins in Ninh Kieu, Binh Thuy, and Cai Rang districts; implementing the model "Green-Clean-Beautiful Alley" in 11/11 wards of Ninh Kieu district.
