The Vietnam - Japan Cultural and Trade Exchange Program in 2023 will take place in two days (June 17 and 18) at Luu Huu Phuoc Park. Within the framework of the event, there were a photo and calligraphy exhibition, an Ao dai (Vietnamese traditional long dress) show, art performances, Vietnam-Japan Cosplay Cup Contest, a food exchange, and a trade and investment promotion workshop, among other activities. Notably, 70 booths were set up by Vietnamese and Japanese firms introducing their special products and services.
Mr. Tran Viet Truong, Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony
Chairman of Can Tho City People’s Committee Tran Viet Truong said the event aims to increase cooperation opportunities between enterprises of the two countries and contribute to deepening the Vietnam-Japan extensive strategic partnership.
Can Tho has established cooperation with Japan’s Hyogo prefecture, Okayama City and Nasushiobara City, he said, adding that the Vietnam-Japan Friendship Association in Can Tho has also been formed.
Local authorities have opened Japan Desk offices in Can Tho, Tokyo, and Osaka to help Japanese investors remove difficulties while investing in Can Tho, and zoned off 30 hectares of land for the Vietnam-Japan Friendship Industrial Park exclusively for Japanese investors.
Japan’s Deputy Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City Ogawa Megumi said that representatives from Japanese government agencies, localities, and businesses have actively participated in activities within the program. She highly appreciated that Can Tho City’s authorities are striving to improve the business environment, especially the development of transport infrastructure. Specifically, when the construction of expressways is completed in the future, the transportation of goods from Can Tho to Ho Chi Minh City, the largest market, will become easier. Ogawa Megumi hoped that these advantages would further develop the relationship between Can Tho and Japan in many fields.
Japan’s Deputy Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City Ogawa Megumi spoke at the event
50 years ago, on September 21, 1973, Vietnam and Japan officially established diplomatic relations. Since then, through many ups and downs occurring both worldwide and throughout the region, the friendship and cooperation between the two nations have been continuously consolidated and developed across a multitude of fields. Political and diplomatic relations, as well as cooperation in security and defense, have been increasingly strengthened in a substantive manner, while cultural activities and people-to-people exchanges have become an important foundation for the increasingly close and trusting relationship. In particular, ties in economics, trade, and investment have been comprehensively promoted, with the two sides building important legal frameworks specifically for bilateral relations. Simultaneously, both nations are members of new-generation free trade agreements such as the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP). These represent important corridors to promote trade and investment relations between the two nations in the spirit of mutual benefit and complementarity. |
